Hi

I went today on a dyno with my 1.9 8v

engine is xu9ja/xu9jaz

mods are

Kentcams cam

Fiat Tipo 16v injectors

Ported and polished head matching the manifolds

Remaped ECU...

Lightened fylwheel (about 4,5 kilograms)

The story goes like this ... i'm runing a m16 (4.4) final drive with 1.9 gti gears, the 5th gear is loger, from mi16 so i can normaly drive on the highway. I tell that to the guy running the dyno and he says the 4th gear might be a bit to short, so we make the dyno run in 5th (wich is longer, but in combination with the 4.4 mi16 finaldrive it's the same as the original 5th in original gearbox)

After the run the result was 95hp on wheels ... so he tells me to multiply it with 1.18 to get the engine hp wich is demoralaising 112hp ...the torque is 145Nm

When searching for topics like this i saw a 1.9 gti with around 75 whp that had 122hp ... so i'm a bit confused right now...

Just for instance, I got a friend with 205 mi16 runng 1.9 8v gearbox, and from a rolling start in 2nd gear he starts to pass me at around 85-90mp/h...all in all i have a feeling that the car is going really good so i was suprised with the lack of horsepower he produces... what are the differences between measuring in 5th or lower gears...

So i'm interesed in what are your dyno results with an 1.9 8v ...or what the hell could be wrong with my car

just wanted to say the engine is rebuilt and in great condition, the compresion is good, low oil consuption ...

Just to add... i tried a run with the original ECU and the modified gives 5whp...

thanks in advance guys

Dont the dyno guys usually do a coast down in neutral to calculate (roughly) the drive train losses? 18% power loss seems low to me.

i don't know what he was doing, and since i came close to closing time i didnt have too much time for questions ... he just gave me a paper with graph with my wheel hp (95) and tourqe (145) and told me to multiply it with 1.18 to get the power of the engine itself. So i was hoping for someone here to tell me their results...

18% isnt miles off the area of losses I;ve seen from a BE box on a relatively standard engine.

power runs are generally done in the gear closest to 1:1, which more often than not will be 4th gear.

you can't remap an XU9JA ecu by the way, so I would fit the standard 1.9 injectors and ecu (the bosch yellow injectors flow more than enough for your power level)

i have a friends 205 mi16 as a benchmark ...i didn't fit all the modifications at once, i fitted them one by one and with everyone (first the cam, then the ecu, then with injectors) i came closer to his mi16 ... (i tested the ecu on the rolling road and the modified gives me 5 horspower more on wheels then the original one)

So thats why i wanted to se some rolling road results of people here just to see their hp.

So to tell the short storry, my car was faster with every modification, but it could be there was something wrong right from the start and i didn't start the "tuning" with full original horsepower... the engine is in great condition...could it be the electrics, senors or something else... the check engine indicator lights up very rarely and if it does it lasts for only few secounds... so i don't know where to start looking for the problem
