Water Pump Housing Cracked

Recommended Posts

MRNAISH

While getting my shed of a 1.4 CJ ready for her 1st Mot after being off the road for 2 years, after filling the water tank up, I noticed a rather bad leak.

I found that the water was coming from the water pump outlet pipe but as I reached down to check the pump housing broke (part of the housing seems to be made of ceramic?)

I can't find any mention of this breaking anywhere else on the forum and after a couple of hours of ringing around no one seems to stock the housing.

Any advice on where I might look (I'm in south Wales, Cwmbran) as I am close to calling the local scrapy to come and take her away.

I broke one some time ago whilst rebuilding my engine. You can buy them new from Peugeot, don't bother looking for one from a scrapper as it will be in the same crappy condtion as yours.

Thanks swordfish210, you wouldn't so happen to remember the rough price would you?

Part number 1204.45. costs £57.77+vat. Although if the dealer likes you they can discount up to 15% off of that. Can be bought from both citroen and peugeot, same price.

Finally found that the "ceramic" outlet pipe can be bought separately and so assumed this could be removed, 1 hour later after atacking the pump housing with a hammer and chisel.....it comes off!

So one order of outlet pipe and o ring (£25.50) and it should delivered next day.

All I need now is to re-atatch the engine mount and cam belt and she will be ready to fail the Mot.

Ah right, i priced the housing rather than the outlet pipe! Just for future reference, if you find a citroen c2/c3 1.4 petrol in a breakers then the housing is likely to be the same part. And they made those cars up until 2 years ago so would be in decent nick too!

Cheers Sam, great to know

I would be finishing it off this weekend but I've been working today and off to the gadget show tomorrow

Your 'ceramic' pipe is probably just very heavily corroded aluminium alloy and as you have noticed they bolt on to the housing. Some of these were produced in plastic which seems to be more suited to the job.
