Mi16V To Bx16V

Hi all I have just fitted a bx engine to my 205 after my mi blew up. The rear water pipe housing only has 3 outlets rather than the 4 on the mi so I have had to block off the rear pipe from the thermostat housing. Is this ok to do as when the MI was fitted it ran another pipe round the back of the head to the rear water pipe housing which the BX didnt have? Also can any one tell me where the 2 water pipes of the throttle boddie go as I cant find any free pipes on the housing or any where else for them to connect to?

Thanks Richard

Sounds like the BX engine has had a 205 style rear coolant distribution block fitted, but this is something that many people do when fitting the engines anyway to remove the bypass pipe that runs along the back of the head.

Personally, I wouldn't bother using the coolant circuit on the throttle body as it's simply not needed in this country - just plumb the expansion tank outlet straight into the thermostat housing bleed/return point. Normally, the cooling system would go from that point, to the throttle body, and then to the expansion tank, which adds extra pipes, complexity and possible points for a leak.

wow thanks for the quick reply. ok cool well thats were the bottle tank pipe goes to just now any way so thats spot on.

do you just leave the throttle boddie pipes open or do you blank them off or loop them together?

cheers

Leaving them open is fine - coolant just flows between the two pipes internally to prevent throttle icing in cold climates, and it is in no way linked to the rest of the system.
