405 And 406 Hubs

I'm needing some 405 spare hubs, but i've been offered some 406 hubs.

Same or completely different? I'm guessing they are 5 bolt holes on the 406 and only 4 on the 405 ones for starters..

My 406 had 4 bolt holes, it was a ph1 not sure if the ph2 had 5 stud fixings. hope this helps

i have 2 406s that im breaking and they both have 4 stud hubs as well

early 405 were different though much the same overall design (BJ screwed into bottom of hub carrier), later 405 used a larger diameter BJ, 406 used the same parts totally.

 

its the 407 that went to 5 stud, not 406.

one detail I forgot, as well as the thread into the bottom of the hub being different, AFAIK the taper of the BJ into the wishbone is larger too, though I haven't had both types side by side to compare.
