205 Xs/vts Road Rally Car Shell Prep

Recommended Posts

Hello Guys.

I'm just after some input into which colour to paint the 205 shell.

Underneath and engine bay is all going to be white to keep it clean. Just feel like something a bit different for the outside.

I know its only a road rally car, and will be driven at night, and no-one cares what it looks like. but i like to take pride in my cars, and figuere when its almost a bare shell, what better time to do a good job?

original plan was to paint it all white (its orange/red at the moment) , then bright yellow and now Metallic silver  But what about Blue?

Kwaka Green would be different, but a lad in the car club has already got a 106 in this colour, as well as paul on this forum's 205 is bright orange and they look posh, but i dont want to copy :D

I've got 5 litres of bright orange paint on a shelf here. Pretty good stuff and an awesome colour.

A 205 does look smart in a bright colour, and i'm sure i've seen pics of your orange shell somewhere.

I wouldnt hesitate to go for it, But i dont want to upset the road rally lads, its very original around these parts.

thanks for the offer tho BB

I can get Dark blue, bright yellow, Ford radient red, Gloss whte, gloss black, Metallic silver and a darkish green all in good quality paint(imo), delivered very cheap.

I got what i believed was 'white' paint off the same company, but i should have known 'orchard white' is an off white used on old david brown tractors  either way i have started to paint my underarches and engine bay in it and it sticks very well, doesnt run unless provoked and shines up realy realy well! will be keyed off and sprayed with proper (glacier / diamond) white This time!

French racing blue is my favourite colour,my old 182 was that colour and looked awesome!

We have just painted my dads black 106 rallye engine bay White,it's a good idea as you can see things better at night and also see any fluid leaks

French racing blue does look great! honestly i didnt know it existed until i googled it 10s ago

Looks like thats the plan, With white cage / engine bay / arches / undercarage :D

Thanks for the suggestions, I shall get ordering.

p.s would you say it is more Gentian blue?

Or aircraft blue?

Or if anyone has the paint code for it, that would be ideal!

if you went for the darker blue you'd be copying wardy :P !

I like the lighter blue a lot. Although white is the best of course

White is a good colour, and was my first choice. I'm not a fan of the dark blue.

White is a bit more subtle, and from a distance you would think it is a standard car which i like the idea of.

Yellow is a bit bright, but it would be easyer for people to find me in a hedge

Whichever colour i go i will be fitting the black arches that came on my first XS ( GTI style with red insert but fit base model rear arches)

Would look good in white with some PTS stripes on the grill

Thanks Ali for throwing a spanner in the works there

But if you paint it french racing/light blue you'd be copying Colin Satchell, and a few others...

Hmm, its not an easy decsision! I think i'l be safer with white.

How much of a ballake is it to take the dash out? would i be better to mask it off?

Aparrently the reg's have got tighter on road rallys, 'ALL' interior trim is to be present... inc roof lining and door cards e.t.c :(

Don't think they will be at the skip where i left them (i still have the door cards)

Time to get a pressure washer and blast off the inner arches (rear) and the underneath. as well as the engine bay ready for the white.

Everything looks good in white doesnt it? I hear it doesnt show dents up, and it is easyer to spray with :D
