Brake's To Fit 1.6 Hubs?

Recommended Posts

dave205

I have 306 td calipers on my 1.6 gti. I think they are ATE. I have no issues with space for the 14" alloys. It may depend on where the wheel weights are, as these may get knocked off.

Are you runing the td calipers on the 1.6 hubs?

good question, as they give an extra 10mm of clearance.

I Finally removed some front calipers of a n-reg 306 dturbo yesterday afternoon in the sun :). Upon getting home and measuring the discs, they were 247mm the same as my 205 dturbo brakes. I thought they were the bigger 266mm discs? I assume running this setup would still be an advantage because although the discs are the same size, the pads are alot larger, hence giving you greater surface area?

Im now unsure what to do and what combination/setup to run!

most of the XUD9TE powered 306's ran 247mm discs, same offset discs as the 1.9 205, unless they had abs afaik where they ran 266mm, hdi's ran 266mm.

the saxo and 106 used the same ate caliper and same offset 247mm discs as the 306.

I'll have to find me a hdi to rip apart then!

Sounds like the 247mm disc is extremly common on peugeots/citroens.

doesnt have to be a hdi, anything 2.0 will do, not certain what the 1.8 16v used, but there's lots about, dont forget xsaras.

Lots of choice of cars to attack then :).

Another quick question, whats the difference betweena 205 1.9 caliper and a 306 Dturbo one?

All Partner vans have 266mm front brakes too.

Some earlier (<02) one have non-vented discs though, and some later ones have different disc offsets, so you have to check.

Caliper manufacturer, yoke & pads most likely but judging by the usual pug parts bin builds one 306 Dturbo could have lucas where the next could have ATE but afaik they both use different pads with the same 266mm disc.

I have some 266mm brakes from a 306 that I had to trim the caliper edges to get clearance on my 1.6 GTI 14" wheels & I hardly found the brakes any better than the standard set up I swapped from, so much so that I have now gone back to standard 247mm discs, 1.9 calipers & tarox pads which feels far superior.

Graham.

Do 1.9 calipers fit 1.6 hubs with 1.6 discs?

Anthony

Yes - need 1.9 bolts too, but otherwise straight swap.
