Saxo/106 Electric Pump

Recommended Posts

maturin23

Hi all,

I'm having an odd problem with the Saxo pump fitted to my 205 as part of the Xsara quick-rack setup.

It's reluctant to start, but when it does eventually kick in it works perfectly. The problem is clearly in the electrical side rather than the hydraulic.

I've investigated the wiring today, as I thought it may have been the relay triggered by the ignition barrel, but putting power directly to the final connector fails to get it spinning.

I've found these http://powersteeringracks.co.uk/zencart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=127_141_295&products_id=254 - but would rather see if I can spot the fault and repair it rather than getting my poor wallet out again (£1300 spent so far this month servicing/MOTing the Focus and taxing the Caterham and the Focus) just wondered if anyone has had one of these apart and can give me some tips before I dive in.

cheers

Ian

I found a German distributor parts catalogue that lists it:

http://www.ika-germany.de/PRODUCTS/CATALOGUE/tabid/133/language/en-US/Default.aspx?ProId=7&dnn_ctr473_ViewCatalogue_rdCrossReferenceChangePage=5

It looks like there are two different parts, 7 5001 0 and 7 5002 0 (on the next page) which I think are for the early and late pumps. AFAIK the early pump has a seperate reservoir and the later one has an integrated filler tube and reservoir. Yours is the seperate reservoir type and I think it would probably need 7 50002 0 which is also the one shown on powersteeringracks.co.uk that you posted.

The manufacturer is called Faurecia so if you can find somewhere that distrubutes their parts in the UK you should get that card for a lot less than from a power steering specialist.

As an aside it says the same part is used in Renault Kangoos and Trafics.

I've got a good pump here if you want it - £60.

What do you think of the set up compared with normal 205 gti PAS?

Kieran - brilliant stuff. I'll get on the case and see if I can track one down direct. If I do swap it out I'll take some photos and post them on the site.

Cheers Boombang - might be in touch, but quite tempted to replace the whole electrical side of the pump instead of swapping for another second hand one that may or may not last.

Matt F - I bloody love it. Nothing wrong with the standard PAS rack, but the turn in is just supernaturally fast with the Xsara rack. I used to find that driving the Pug after a weekend thrashing the Caterham was a bit of a let down, the steering felt a little bus-like, now they have a similar feel. Best mod pound for pound for the 205 GTI in my opinion. Kieran (JackHerer) sourced and fitted mine - had some nice hoses made up, shifted the battery to the boot - it looks OEM.
