The car has been painted twice so as far as I see it he has had all the chances he is ever gonna get off me. I paid £2100 in total. Thats was for the mechanic to strip car down, remove engine and a panel beater to cut away old panels and fit new ones as needed. Painter to prep and respray and final mechanic to rebuild with new front subframe and front and rear suspension. I supplied all the parts.

The breakdown as I understood it was £1200 for the painter £300 for the panel beater and £500 for the mechanic and £100 for additional.

But who knows! I think they started squabbling early on over who was getting what and it got left for ages and in the end I was the one who ended up with a s*ite car.

I will always use a highly recommended paint shop from now on. Lesson learned.

I'll need to manage my pics so I can upload some more. I'll probably do that tomorrow.

like i say it didnt look right to me from the first stage of prep, doing resprays is all strip the car totaly before any repairs and sanding starts, once it is stripped then all the dents, rust and any other imperfections are done then the whole car should be sanded down and primed with about 4 coats of high build primer then blocked down flat, once happy with the prep then and only then should the paint be applied other wise you are just wasting time and paint materials for it to be redone,,,,,,,,,,was it a proper bodyshop who did it?i do better jobs at home in my garage in my back garden

It was no where near the standard of an amateur let alone your repairs. Very shoddy work mine was. I'm trying to make the best of it tho. The major rust has been tackled and the car will be good for another 3-4 years. I will be saving till then for a proper respray at a proper specialist. Probably someone through here I think. But I've learned a hard lesson and what I take from it is that if you pay cheap then you will inevitably pay twice. And always go with a reputable company not a bunch of backyard cowboys. And never use a friend of a friend.

Afternoon,

If I was you, I would liaise with Trading Standards as that is well below acceptable and clearly will not last 3 years. When you exchange money for goods and services, it must be deemed to be of reasonable quality, which that is not.

Hope this helps.

Chris

It was a cash in hand job. The guy wanted another £300 as well. No bother I said as I drove the car away, I'll get that to you ASAP. Not a chance. Really annoying I waited 18 months for that. Glad to have the car back but she's not looking great. Well not up close anyway. I'll probably get the bad bits fixed over the summer and take it from there.

Im sorry to hear you had some poor work but don't let it get you down. Move on and be happy. Like you said you are a perfectionist like me you like things to be immaculate. But try and get it finished and plan like you say to get it done again some time in the future.

A friend of mine had a citroen c2 repainted from black to white. Paid £1500. The paint job was excellent. There are good guys out there, you just need to find them. And if they're busy their normally good. Just maybe not in your case. Your one better than me, I'm still looking for my car. Never mind paint.

Cheers dude, it's got some issues at the moment ie faulty starter I think so will be changing that next week. Plus I've got the new alloys to fit, alarm to fit, stereo to fit, some inner trim to fit, new plates to buy, wheel carrier to fit and some more plasticaring to do.

Over the past month or so I've done a few jobs though.

Fitted a lot body trim and badges.

Fixed the instrument panel which had a faulty gauge and milage counter from a donor off eBay.

Also took the opportunity to acquire and fit some dash bits to replace my broken ones courtesy of Dave205.

Fitted a couple of outer window scrapers.

Refitted a genuine bumper with all the correct fittings.

Was hoping to have it done by now but poor weather and starting issues have slowed me down. I'll try and upload some more pics over the next few weeks.
