Odd Suspension Issue

Recommended Posts

Spiky

Cars been in bits a few months and had to replace a n/s hub

As far I know I not touched the adj bottoms arms and the top mounts look like last year

But

Now the passenger wheel looks to have positive camber and sticks out from the arch ?

I've checked the driveshaft is in full and it is

The hub I bought was "supposed" to be a 205, but even if it was a 306 one would it really stick the wheel out so much? As I know the 306 ones give positive camber but this much?

got another damper you can try?

not sure how much different the 306 hubs are, guess it could be worked out easily enough by measuring the width of the 306 strut tops and checking what angle the 306 is meant to be, if they are closer in than the 205 compared to the track width then that will explain it.

No, dampers are PTS billies, and the car was fine when taken off the road after last track day :s

Just pissed I had bought a so called 205 hub and not only did I have to replace the bearing it turns out not to be a 205 one :(

There's alot of "205 1.9 GTi" hubs being sold that are actually 306 items, and early (non-hollowcast) non-ABS 306 ones do look very similar.

There's a marked difference in camber between the two, and is pretty obvious just looking at the car without having to accurately measure it - to give you an idea, a 306 hub takes away all the negative camber that a 309 hub adds, and I believe still gives you a touch of positive camber. As you've still got the old hub, swap that back on and see if it all looks correct again - if it does, then you know what the issue is.

Guy on eBay

Have a look at this reply from him

Dear spiky.cosworth,

Even though this is getting tiresome, i will indulge you.

They were brand new from PTS, the distance that your are measuring has no bearing on the camber angle, if I measure a 1.6 to a 1.9 I would expect to see that difference. the measurement between the flat bearing face and the bottom wishbone I/D is where you need to measure. I will take my 306 hubs of my rallycar over the weekend and measure them correctly to a 1.9 and a 1.6 hub and send you the info if I get time...

if that one on the right is meant to be the same angle, I'd say it was quite bent!

not surprising if it came from a rally car spares package.
