Buckets And Standard Belts?

Recommended Posts

fatony1

Bought myself a bucket seat on Ebay today, bargain 117 quid brand new un-used Sparco Sprint with sidemounts and bolts etc :)

Im looking to fit it this weekend, but it totally crossed my mind that the buckle part of the standard belt is attached to the seat!

The only option i can see is to buy some of these...

...then drill 2 holes in the centre tunnel and get some belt buckles from another car and bolt them up that way, is this the common way people do it? I assume the plates are welded to the car? If so do you weld them inside the car to the exhaust tunnel, or on the outside (under the car)?

Thanks in advance :)

You could do that, or bolt the belt buckles from the rear seats in somewhere and use them, one hole/fixing for both then. :)

You can also route the belt through one of the harness holes in the seat before bolting in place, makes it i bit tighter on you too then, rather than across the seat frame not actually holding you!

Arse, i think i threw the old buckles from the rear seats out, typical. Although to be honest the plan is to eventually get a cage and harnesses so ill need a hole/mounting point on both sides of the tunnel anyway. Any idea what side of the tunnel the mouting plate needs to be welded? (inside or outside the car?)

They don't have to be welded really, just drill a single hole in the centre of the tunnel behind the handbrake (have a look underneath for access around exhaust first!) and screw the eyes in/to the plates - on the underside of the car, the tightened eye-bolt will sandwich it all together well enough & you can mount both driver's & passenger's buckle (& latterly harness lap-strap) on the same one. :)

btw, come and get that bladdy roof! +i have a cage for sale soon... ;):P

This, is how I did mine.

No issues at mot time & works even better with the addition of a CG Lock.
