Auto Wipe / Jet Wash

Hi.

 

My Auto Wipe / Jet Wash has packed up on my 1989 GTi 1.9

 

The Wipers work fine in all modes.

 

When I pull the lever back to activate the autowipe/jetwash the following things happen:

1) Nothing

2) Wipers sweep 4 times, no water

3) Works Ok

 

I have replaced the wiring to the water bottle, same problems exist.

 

Was wondering about a) The Lever The Blue Wiper Relay

 

Are these likely to be the problems???

 

Any help appreciated..

Quite likely to be the switch stalk. They can be taken apart, contacts cleaned and reassembled but it's much simpler to replace the lot

I would say it is the actual pump itself that pushes into the water bottle. Have you tested this with 12v direct to the contacts? If this is fine, test to see if you get 12v to the connectors when you pull the switch. If not then it is more than likely your stalk.

Thanks for your help chaps.

 

I took the control unit apart, (the lever), and cleaned teh contacts. Very fiddly, but works fine now.
