205 GTi 1.9 is the most recent Pistonheads Hero, not a bad write up, not as cliched as it could be lol:

I've just posted (and quoted Batfink - apols Kev!).

Great write-up - as above it's good to read one that doesn't just trot out the usual cliches and accepted errors.

Nice write up and every word true. The 205 GTI for me is the best hot hatch ever.

Love it, Love it....

I had my 1.9 and it's a fantastic little car. It's has it's little glitches and it's not a concours one, however for £1k is one hell of a lot more fun than my £31k Audi A6 which I bought new back in October of last year.

You guy's are also great and the website is fantastic.

Keep up the good work everyone and keep these Hot Hatch Kings on the road.

Cheers

That car was on ebay last year as I nearly bought it.

I think it went for about a grand in the end.

When I looked at it, it had 206 Gti wheels, induction kit and the obligatory 6 x 9's in the parcel shelf.

Didn't notice that the coil was in the wrong place though.

Because it's a ph2 but it's using an earlier wing mounted coil. See the mounting stubs on the inlet manifold where the coil should be.

Ok I see that now. It was ten past seven give me some slack!

Being as I am replying to this topic, I cant see why people are rubbishing what looks like a nice car. Just enjoy the read then go and take yours for a spin for that feel good factor.

I wasn't rubbishing it. Someone has done the same on my car, so it's easier to notice!

It is alot of money for a car that has been tinkered with though, but it does look in great shape! :D

How sad am I?

I just logged in so I could make the comment (about the Coil in the wrong place)

Also, is it not odd that the car has no power steering yet its ok a K reg?

I'm not rubbishing it at all. Just pointing out a few bits. Not sure its a 4k car. (but hope it goes for that so the general value of 205's go up :lol:)

I read that article on Pistonheads the other day, I have not had a 205 for about 6 or 7 years now, after reading the article is made me want to go and buy one again and is also the reason for me logging into this forum for the first time in nearly 2 years!

Sorry to bring an old thread back from the dead....

I am looking to buy this car as I fancy another in the garage for nice days. I've had a total of 5 gti's but this was years ago when i was young!

Couple of questions to the wise:-

Apparently the car was regs october 92

Should it not have grey carpet? or could it be last of the red batch, did they mix things up like the phase 1.5?

What engine is it, should it have? does it look like its been changed?

It has a cat (I believe), should it not have the plastic manifold?

Why would the coil be mounted on the wing and not on the inlet manifold?

Anything else that doesnt add up? ideally I want an original car to turn into something pretty mint.

Thanks in advance

Only cars that originally came with cat's had grey carpet/ chequerd door cards, it has a different inlet manifold on only difference is the taps for ignition module so maybe it was originally a plastic inlet manifold and a cat. It's been for sake for a very long time so have a good look over it.
