Central Locking

Recommended Posts

dcc

basically i want to get a new central locking fob thingy for the 205, ive seen a few kits on ebay, but they look s*it and tacky for around £20-40.

i dont want to spend mega bucks on it as all it essentially needs to do is lock the doors without me using the key in the lock. any preferences or recommendations??

thanks

Dan.

lol!!!!!

I think what WP was trying to say is can you interface off the alarm and drive the CL that way. There is usually an output for this on decent alarms

1.5, grey interior, white/creamy paint, clifford alarm fitted and removed, empty pack of 6 award winning mince pies in boot.

Ah, was going to suggest getting a factory fitted fob and sensor. They were standard fit in all phase 2 cars, but no one seems to have them anymore. I think I even have one lying about..

Retrofitting a Phase 2 remote central locking won't be an easy task in a Phase 1.5 as there are several other differences, not least of which is the almost entirely different central locking wiring wiring.

By far the easiest way to do it is to have an additional slave motor in the drivers door which activates the original central locking system - then you just need something to control it, either an alarm (like you've just removed) or a cheapo central locking kit (which I agree all have tacky looking remotes).

There are some half-decent looking aftermarket kits like the Toad RK30, but they're not far off the price of a fully-fledged CAT1 alarm that'l have the functionality *and* give you some form of security against undesireables.

and more importantly with most insurers these days, cover against theft, I know many will insist on a cat 1 alarm or will not pay out in event of theft or break in.

I had no end of problems a couple of years ago. My insurance company insisted I fit a cat 2 despite the car having an kill switch.
