Mi16 ----> Gti6 Conversion..

Recommended Posts

Stu

Hi all,

Owing to the untimely demise of the Mi, im considering building a '6 engine to replace it, the Mi ran with 45's on a Satchell manifold and mappable ignition so at the mo am considering retaining this setup for a faster conversion.. Ive got a set of Baker hoses on it and wanted to use as much as possible on the new build so what can i keep? What hoses are common between the two engines? If i have a play with the outlet block at the rear of the '6 enginer could i use them all? I hear a D Turbo distribution block helps, is this the case?

I know i'll have to get a stat adapter and different top hose but if thats all then ill be thankful, im aware of the manifold/downpipe mods and the tilting of the m/c to clear the rocker cover but is there owt else i need to think about?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

much easier and safer with the 6 manifold in there making things a bit close to retain the standard RS water distribution housing and steel pipe across the back of the engine and get hold of a BBM gti6 heater - expansion tank -engine hose, the other heater hose is the same as the 8v and Mi16 one.

other than the aforementioned thermostat housing takeoff+adapter and manifold adjustments the rest is all the same.

may well need some adjustment to the carbs and ignition timing due to the different characteristics of the engines.

Not allot, Depending on which type of lower hose (Metal water pipe to Engine Dist housing) you may need to change it as the Alloy and Plastic housings are different dia's, you can get them to seal but I have known them to leak from to time if the wrong size.

I don't like the HDI plastic Dist housing either, 'A' they snap and 'B' you have too many pipes near the exhaust manifold.

Other than moving a couple of sensors the loom will swap across with ease and off you go

Email BBM, they'll be able to tell you exactly what you need.

Note that you need different hoses if you've got a VTS or GTI-6 engine, as i found out!!!
