Mi16 With 8V Head

Recommended Posts

205freak

hi, i know that it has been talked before, It has to be 8v cause here in Madeira the car won´t pass on the MOT with a 16v engine on it, it´s not allowed, so that´s why i have to keep it 8v.

I would like to know if it´s possible to use the 8v head from a xu5 or xu9 on a iron mi16 or xu7 bottom end, what kind of work it has to been done to work properly and what would be the best ???!!!

I want to build a good strong 8v engine road car and some times go up the hills on b roads where in Madeira...regarding the ecu gonna use a ms3 and bike carbs.

Please give some advise on this matter.

I think the compression ratio would be way too low for normally aspirated application. Why not build a good healthy 1.9 8V with 1.6 pistons for increased compression ratio?

XU5/9 head on an XU7JP4 (1.8 16v) bottom end works fairly well, and gives around 10.5:1 compression from memory - perfect for a mildly cammed 8v on standard management/ignition.

James_R on here put such an engine together a while back which worked well until it spun a big-end shell, so if you do a search you'll probably find a more definite compression figure.

Here it´s very difficult to find 1.6 or 1.9 bottom end in good condition to built a good engine!!!! So my thoughts are going to a 2.0 bottom end....i know of good mi16 iron bottom, could change the crank and use forged pistons, the head gonna be skimmed and going to use a 285º cam or not the best choice do you think the xu7 would be a better bottom end???!!

My aime is to anchieve between 130-145 bhp and with really nice torque.

If you know a good bottom end for sale and someone willing to post it, would be much aprecciated.

My rally car is basically Mi16 with 8 v head i was running std pistons but have now gone to forged 83.5mm pistons with the intruder dome machined off, the compression ratio is 12.2:1, running a 8v 1900 head with 15 thou skimmed off of it. So it is doable, but you will need super unleaded and maybe octane booster.

As a side note, it's interesting to compare the attitude of various governing bodies. For example, you're not allowed to add a 16V head, but you can add TB's, after market ECU and a 285 deg. cam. Here in Australia, it's quite different. The laws are all about keeping the exhaust emissions low. So later, more efficient engine swaps are encouraged, as are turbos. But any tampering with induction, ecu's or big cams is a no-no.

Petert here we also have some restrictions regarding exhaust emissions laws but is always possible to change the exhaust emissions when using the aftermarket ecu!!!

So can i use the mi iron bttom end with 8v head without no mods or better to use the XU7JP4 like Anthony said???!!!

There is also the xu10j2c engine from the 306 xsi...with a few work done it seems a good upgrade!!!!

I need some thoughts on this matter...
