Hey guys,

I have started to notice a slight wine coming from my car on excelleration. My first thoughts were thrust bearing but after popping the bonnet earlier and giving the motor a little rev by hand it seems that the wine is coming fom the cambelt. I put a new belt kit and water pump on around 3000 miles ago when I did the conversion.

Any suggestions would be good before I start investigating further.

Thanks in advance.

Mike :)

Could be the belt is a bit too tight, is it any better when it is cold?

it wines a lot on first start from cold, then quietens down after 5minutes.

Tight belts normally start out quiet then get louder when the engine expands as it warms up in my experience but its still worth checking the tension IMO.

Check the tension and also check that no-one fitted a supercharger kit while you weren't looking - there's some real sneaky basta*ds about at the moment

Check there isn't an 8.8 grade bolt on the idle pulley. I just found out hard way

What is this?? ^^

Also when checking the tension on the belt how do I know whats correct?

I was told that if I could turn the belt a quarter turn on the longest part it was about right,.

I have a similar whine, took the alternator belt off and it stopped. Took the alternator off to find that it had play in the bearings, changed the bearings with new quality ones, but the whine is still there.
