1.8 Turbo Diesel Engine Cambelt Failed Advice Pls

Recommended Posts

jaf2011

Hi,

I am new to this forum, and would like some advice. We have a peugeot diesel engine in our Rover 218 SD (same as 205 TD and 306 TD?), and the cambelt has failed. Does anyone know if these engines are non intrusive?

As i am hoping the pistons and valves did not make contact when the belt snapped...

I read somewhere the valves are vertical in this engine?

Also does anyone know of anyone local to the Bolton, Preston, Manchester area that is an expert on fixing these engines?

These engines are a definate contact engine, as are most older diesels especially.

Graham.

Your best bet is to throw a 1.9td lump in the pretty common,The 306td is a 1.9 not a 1.8.These are`nt to hard a swap really or if you dont fancy tackaling it yourself take it to your local garage and get an engine from your local scrappy. It would be alot cheaper than rebuilding your motor.Plust the 1.9td is better and spares are more readily avalible

Whip the cam cover off and see how many bits the cam is in, normally 5 if a belt snaps !

I know many people that have been lucky to stick another cam in with no other work and have been fine, though conversely I know a few that have 4 paperweights waving around in the bores.
