hiya all,

Im a newbie to this forum and so far as im looking it looks a brill site. I've just recently brought 205 gti 1.9, what i love to drive :) but the only things im a having problems with it seems to judder at low speeds and i think it cud be miss-firing as it takes a little while to start also the idling/cutting out of it when i first start it... i have keep revving slightly untill engine seems to warm up and then it idles about 750revs, but ive ordered a control valve today to see if i cures it,... but i've read sumwhere (cant find again haha) that it could be air mass meter??

any help please.....

Do a search on it, theres a few threads relating to this. Theres quite a few possible causes from faulty AFMs, fuel cut off switches, ignition timing, ht leads... I personally found my car very jerky on and off the throttle as a result of a vacuum leak; make sure all the air filter trunking up to the throttle body is airtight for a start, if it isnt that check your ignition timing. These things can be adjusted without buying new parts (usually :P)

Hi. A lot of the 1.9 Gti's run a little rough from cold when not serviced regularly. A new control valve or mass air flow meter could help solve the problem.

But if you just recently purchased the vehicle it should like it might just need a good service (leads, plug & dis cap etc). Plus the mixture slightly adjusting.

I'm sure if you had a quick browse about you'll find some similar posts that could point you in the right direction.

I hope this helps.

P.S you'll love the 205 :)

What is this control valve you've ordered?

Graham.

I'm also a newbie to 205's and Peugeot. I bought a 91 H-Plate two weeks ago and loving every minute and it's real fun after driving my 60 Plate Audi A6.

I also have the common idle problem, however I have become used to it and sometimes it idles pefect from cold.

Enjoy yourself, I know I will. I've got a month to get it through it's MOT and it needs attention to one of the rear brakes as one of the pads flew out of the rear of the car the day after I bought it. The second main issue is that the exhaust is blowing between the front section and four branch manifold.

Cheers

I've always started with the basic when I get a GTi. Plugs, leads cap etc. This gets rid of some of the more common but overlooked issues that can occur. Carb cleaner is your friend too. Regular cleaning of the intake system from filter to inlet manifold helps. It's also worth changing the fuel filter as again it can be something that hasn't been changed in years. Get the car warmed up to normal running temperature and switch the lights etc on, then screw the idle to the correct setting.

If you still have problems then you can start to look at the AFM etc
