Bureaucracy Gone Mad

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

as you may know by now I am attempting to get my covers and trim business underway. I was quite badly sideswiped by the firm that couldn't provide me with a viable red/black check insert fabric, so I decided to switch the production of covers using what I had. This resulted in my choice to make "Rallye" style seat covers,

I had seen John Goodhands embroidered "flammes" and decided to see what it would take to get that design embroidered into my seat insert (backrest ).

I decided to do things the way I had learned on my business course all those years ago and duly contacted Peugeot UK saying what I wanted to do and seeking permission to use the "flamme" design. I did this out of a combination of politeness and also professionalism. What a mistaka to maka!!. That was on 2 Feb this year and I still have heard nothing back. I am told by the UK Pug legal guy "these things are notoriously slow, especially if they have to contact Pug (FR). The point at issue apparently is that France can't seem to decide whether or not they might want to use the Flamme logo again themselves, yet alone consider whether or not I can use it on my seatcovers for their cars, that they themselves no longer make! This level of Bull s*it drives me mad and I just felt like having a rant. - sorry.

This is just to let you know about the level of petty bureucracy that I face all the time.AAAAAAAAAARRRGGGGHHHH!

Rant over

regards

Dave H

thats france for you.... try getting planning permission for a velux roof window off the local mayor! all good now tho.

edit. Bit of a usless point!

i shouldnt think they would stop you fabricating them as they dont make them anymore. and should be happy to see people finding ways to keep there pride and joy as intended!

I would have thought as you are not selling as made by peugeot, or passing the design off as yours or trying to take ownership of the design there is little they can do when you are offering a replacement part. I would speak to a solicitors specialising in this field to see whether you need to go through all this bother.

I am sure it is fine, pm Jonnygoodhand as he's been making them in sticker form and selling them for ages.

The logic I outlined is such that as Pug don't make the covers anymore why should they kick up a fuss. However, the matter is not within my direct control as my embroiderer says to me that because this is a Peugeot copyrighted logo, then I need written permission from them to use it. This being because he does work for Peugeot UK - I presume. I thought that this permission would just be a matter of "ask and you shall receive" but we seem to have some legal nerd in France whose only job is to answer these type of requests - AND HE DOESN'T WANT TO !!!!!! for some reason known only to him.

Remember Crecy - little french legal nerd - that's what I say.

PS Easy to say just go ahead regardless - you won't have the solicitors letter landing on your doormat.

Hi mate,

we all know that Peugeot are only interested in the 205 when it suits them, thay rarely - if ever do anything to assist us in our endeavours.

Well that's big businesses for ya, they just don't give a s*it about their customers once you have bought their product and its too late to take it back for instance.

Good luck with this and its a pity you cant get hold of the original red check design.

Hi all,

At long last - the frogs have have made their minds up and I have permission to use the Flamme logo as part of my seat covers.

Excellent news - took 6 weeks mind.

Surgie - I was never trying to get hold of the original "Quintet" fabric - it's not made anymore by anyone. What I still am trying to do is to find a firm that can make a good reproduction of said material. Whatever the design is rest assured it will be my design (i.e. "Quintet") I have been delayed - not stopped.

regards

Dave

Great news! Did they just give you the OK or have they supplied you with a design document, outlining the dimensions and colours?

well done. I personally have much difficulty in dealing with a certain french company that will remain nameless. They cannot even be bothered to answer emails...
