Recommended Posts

I've finally killed the paradas at bedford autodrome today so need some replacements before combe

dont really want to spend more than £40 a tyre  needs to be grippy on track but not tooo soft and still ok in the wet! so everything really :P

any decent cheap brands that work well on track as well as road and will last a little while? :)

Toyo t1r - camskillz where doing them at £29.10 per corner delivered late last year!!! For that money you will not find a better tyre!!

I find them as good as tge Goodyear eagle f1 I had on b4 and for well under half the price of these!! Don't know if they still doing them at this price but even at £60 a corner they are great!!!

I would recommend Toyo T1R's too. They tick every box for what you need and mine have lasted me 2 years with the rears still going strong!

Falken 912's are probably the best value for money tyre i've used.

stretch to £50 odd a corner and you'll get PE2's in 195 50, work well in the wet and dry, probably will need some road work before they work on the track without overheating but once part worn very good.

Slightly soft sidewalls but nowhere near Parada floppyness!

912's OK for the road but I've yet to be impressed on Track perforamce, even on sprints on the back they go off over the day, Get some Half worn T1R's, new ones again will be poor unless you have them buffed down

Coming from someone who increases tyre pressures in the wet, of course being adverse to common practise, i can see why that's your opinion.

2 of the last 3 class championships i've won on T1R's alot of the time.

They're as progressive as F1's in the wet & dry and come close to them all round too tbh, although just not quite on par in the wet, and different tread levels seem to make a great difference.

Agreed. Some F1's will be slightly better but T1R's will do for what you want, an all rounder, especially for the money, tbh i dare say the 912's will also cope fairly.

But it is really worth considering leaving the Parada's on a set of spare rims to use next trackday etc - now they're dead for the road, they're perfect for that, whereas any relatively new tyre will suffer with the heat and wear prematurely, oddly and cause handling oddities.

cheers for all the advice :) my paradas are over 4 years old though (albeit nearly 2 of those off the road!) so think they've reached "end of life" ! were sliding all over the show as the day wore on yesterday regardless of what i set the pressure to :s need some sticky ones! :P

Am i right in thinking that Goodyear eagle F1's are no longer in production ?

Hankook S1 Evo. Although I have done no trackdays with them they handled brilliantly on the road, both wet and dry. I would say they are comparable to the Michelin PS2 (one of the best road tyres IMHO that suits the 205).

I am not a fan of Toyos as they have too soft sidewalls.

I've not tried them, but heard good things about the more track-oriented Hankook RS2's that are just over £50 a corner in 195/50R15 - link

Possibly worth a punt if you want a more track-bias tyre and can stretch the budget a little.

Put the wheels on and give them a try when the car is MOTed ;)

Indeed the RS2's have good reviews.

I've only read good things about the RS2s and have bought a set for my car. Haven't pushed the car yet as I'm running the engine in, but first impressions are good.

What are the toyos like compared to the 912s in the wet on the road?

I preferred the Falkens on my car and my brothers 306 to the Toyo's I tried on someone else's 205 :)

As said, the Toyo's seem to differ massively, tread levels and to the point of if they're never heat cycled very well or left for a while they go off & can seem absolute crap.

Yes, it really does make a difference!

Of course you increase the tyre pressures in the wet for the same tyre from dry conditions, you sir are the one that is being adverse to common practice.

On a flat out race car with appropriate suspension and being driven flat out all the time, yes.

On a fast road/track car, on road-based tyres, I'm still not convinced ;)

As you can see we all like different tyres, I wouldn't even stick the Parada's on a fire I think that much of them, Same goes for the old F1's.

you may all laugh but I use Silverstone Track day tyres not, Not bad at all, just the supply is very limited.

Comparing the Toyo's and 912's in the wet, the 912 wins hands down, you look at the various tyre tests and not allot beats them even in the higher price range.

ive had remoulds and Pirelli P6000's on old cars but i wont entertain anything other than T1-R's now, they are about £150/160 a set for 195 50 15 but tyres and brakes are the most important things IMO so i spend the money on them
