[trackday_prep] Another Gti6 Trackday Car

Recommended Posts

Discostu

Hi all,

Some of you may remember me from around 2 years ago when i had a white 205 in which i installed a 2.0 8v turbo engine, and before that an mi16. However i assume most of you wont have a clue who i am as i havent posted on here for quite some time... so hello lol

Anyway, here i am posting up the details of my latest 205 that i purchased shortly after selling my white turbo, so about 2 years ago. It began life as a standard 1.6 Gti in pretty good condition, although the engine was in pretty poor shape. I then installed a cage, some bucket seats, and all the other usuall modifications associated with a trackday car allong with a 16v GTi6 engine.

I wont bore you all with the installation of the GTi6 engine as you've probably all seen that a 1000 times before. So i will start my project diary with a few pictures of my original build and then move into my latest engine build, currently being undertaken.

Here come the pics.....

Ok so that takes us up until last October. I have now removed the engine as it was very tappy. I can only assume the engine i had bought had thrown its timing belt at some point and damaged some valve guides. I have since bought a new engine that i have stripped and am currently in the process of re-building.

First up the head.... Stripped:

Valves re-ground and head re-surfaced:

I bought some Kent PT81's second hand for a bargain price so i have fitted them:

And got busy with the sandpaper and paint lol:

And here is the rig i mocked up out of some wood off-cuts to avoid damaging the valves:

That has brought me oretty much upto date now. have removed my pistons ready to send off for machining and will be looking at purchasing some management in the next month or two.

All thoughts, comments, good or bad are welcome. Glad to be back in action on the forum :)
