Mi On 8V Loom Question

Recommended Posts

floodys

Got a mi running on a 8v loom i think, only because it has dizzy adapter? Just want a couple of questions answered, how do's the wirring work? I.e all origianl loom in car, ecu etc and is it just cut about a bit in engine bay?

Other main question is that it hasnt got a icv, so idle is all over the place untill warm but then when it is it dont just sit sweet at 1k ish like my track car on mi loom! Finally, on same subject, what would i have to wire into to "add" a icv? It has 2 wire's one of which i think just becomes ignition live? Help please!

How does it work? not particularly well! just like the 8 valve did by the sounds of it.

You need an MI16 ecu - loom - afm - ICV - crank sensor and dizzy, possibly a few other bits, then it'll run much better :D

Thanks for that! So your not sure how it works, nor if i can fit the icv to the existing loom? If i cant then i'll put up with it! Not going to all that effort of putting mi loom in, plus all other bits!! Lol

No you can't wire in an ICV to the 8v management, as the ECU is far too simplistic to have the electronics to control an ICV.

The wiring will be exactly as per the 8v engine at the moment, with nothing chopped, added or removed.

Mi16 engines on 8v management are a bodge at best, and as above, they really do run and behave so much better on proper Mi16 management - as I'm sure you know if you've got a 205 Mi16 already that is on the correct management.

All that effort? Its less than an hours work if you've done it before.

Mmm-- I hate to be a stick in the mud but I did my Mi conversion into an 8v 309gti many many years ago and it ran like a dream with a longman dizzy adapter and 45 webbers from the moment it turned over!

It made lots of bhp and did 7k in 5th on a private test track....

Yes mine hunted a little on tick over however, it was well worth it :D

Do not believe all you hear---It is sometimes not true.

I know what is achievable on a standard ecu and carbs as I did it 18 years ago...

Ah, but if you were using carbs then you weren't using the 8v management - 8v Jetronic management is fuel-only remember, and hence the ECU etc is redundant when running carbs.

Correct, and I assume that the dizzy was recurved to suit the 16v engine.

The driveabily, increased mpg and extra power are all worth the extra work.

If you installed it properly, you would be glad you did.
