Trouble Selecting Reverse While Running

Recommended Posts

rallyeash

Hi Guys, finanlly got the 205 on the road and done a few miles in it today, im having trouble selecting reverse while the engines running, turn it off and select reverse then start back up and works fine, just grinds when trying to select. i thought it could be the clutch cable, so i popped down to the local factors and picked one up but it isnt any better. running a paddle clutch, billet flywheel on a gti6 engine with a 1.9 gearbox.

ive tried adjusting the cable both ways without any sucsess.

anyone had this issue before? ive also noticed that the gearbox is got a noise when on overrun while in gear.

thanks Ash

Sounds like the clutch is dragging and not fully disengaging for whatever reason, and the lack of synchro in reverse means that it grinds.

Is the biting point well off the floor, or pretty much at the bottom of the pedal?

Worth double-checking that all the gearbox bolts (especially the lower rear one near the diff) are present and tight, as if they're not that tends to cause problems for clutch disengagement and gives trouble selecting gears.

thanks, i'd say the biting point is apporx 75% towards the top of the pedal. i found if the cable is adjusted right up you can start to hear it touching the flywheel

will check all the bolts tomorrow. were all done up nice and tight when fitted 30 road miles and 70 rolling road miles ago.
