Gti6 Conversion

Recommended Posts

As the title states really; I'm looking at collecting an engine from a gti6 at some point soon, what should I take from the doner car? I'll be using my current gearbox, so what about drive shafts? I'll take the entire engine loom obviously (how about the ecu, i'll need it unlocked won't I?) , just checking to see if theres anything I hadn't thought of. Thanks,

Sam

Why not choose one of the many conversion threads and read it all the way through, most list all the parts within.

By the way, did you mean 'donor'? Doner is a kebab.

From a GTi6:-

Engine, loom, ecu, brakes, front suspension.

From a Xsara VTS

As above, but also with the rack.

A good start place is in Works & Projects titled "My Engine Swap Thread".

Make sure before you take the engine out that you unlock the ECU.

Its best to use 205 gti drive shafts or 309 gti ones with 309 gti wishbones. The info about the diff is HERE. You can use the 306 shafts in the 306 diff but you would need to change the shaft ends to go into the hub and its not a good idea to mix and match old and new parts of drive shafts.

Hope this helps >

Miles

If you don;t hear the engine running before it's removed assume it's scrap, the amount of junk I get delivered is just plain scary and ends up costing 3 times as much, There was a complete Xsara VTS on ebay at £500.00 the other day so a much better bet in my book.

Agreed with Miles, the Xsara VTS cars tend to not be as ragged about like the 306 GTI6's tend to, they both have the same engines just different looms and a few other bits in the engine bay etc.

yeah, the guy says I can see/hear it running before I take the engine out, so if it rattles/taps then i'll avoid it like the plague. Cheers for the help chaps, much appreciated. Will probably have to pick your brains a few more times before this conversion is over lol.
