Sump Idea - Maybe To Reduce Surge?

Recommended Posts

BTW, has anyone measured the capacity of alloy sump in liters? e.g. how much oil is normally in the sump in order to see where the top cover (sump "ceiling") with baffle doors on top should be located?

I don't mean the windage tray obviously, which must be located as close to the crank as possible.

Does anyone know why the stock windage tray has no crank scrapers?

More than you think! Not sure about the XU9J4 Mi16 sump, as it's too shallow. The XU9 8V alloy A/C sump, or XU10 sump, with the 15mm spacer plate, takes approx. 7L. You can only run that much if you have a windage tray however. And yes, this is measured at the inclined installed position. Most racers don't put enough oil in. The baffle has to be scolloped to match the curve of the windage tray if you've done it correctly.

What I have installed in my D6C is a Constella sump baffle system and the 6bar spring, chain, sprocket etc.

I have the peugeot windage tray installed in the second D6C.

What I intend on making is a fully walled and baffled sump with trap doors both on vertical walls and on the top wall (apparently I will be attaching it to the mounting points I will have to make on the vertical walls). Plus the peugeot windage tray (still not sure that it will be of any benefit with this setup - open to comments).

So what I was wondering was what is the actual oil level measured in the sump when the oil level dipstick is at the top level mark.

I did measure it, but can't recall exactly. It is low however. In these two pics you can see the difference between the XU10 wall height and a custom wall in an 8V A/C sump. The yellow area needs to be removed to clear the windage tray. This sump has three doors and multiple chambers.
