Red Or Black Top Mi16 Cover?

Recommended Posts

Just a quick one...having seen a few mi16 coversions on a few cars now Im just wondering what the difference is between those that have the red top and those that have the black? Had an idea it may be Red from a bx and black from a 405 but may be wrong....just wanted to know for my own curiosity!!!

Cheers!

They're all black crackle finish as standard - red just seems to be a popular colour that people paint them in :)

Historical isn't it. Race engines were often painted red on the top to be sporty and signify they were different from standard. Red is a more temperature friendly colour too I guess with its iron content to provide colour. As I said earlier, Italian cars were quite famous for their Tessa Rossa (Red Head) engines.

People paint engines all sorts of colours usually for aesthetic reasons and oil and dirt can be cleaned off more easily

To easily see oil leaks, though i agree, ugly!
