Engine Flush

Recommended Posts

swordfish210

I'm going to be giving my 309 its 180,000 mile service pretty soon and i wouldn't mind running some oil system flush through it to hopefully remove any cruddy deposits but having never used the stuff before i'm not sure what brand to go for, anyone used anything before and had good results, Wynns stuff normally seems pretty good, or should i just not bother. Thanks. Mark

There is generally no need to flush the engine and flushing can be harmful. What can happen is the flush can loosen harmless deposits in the engine, but then not remove them. Your new oil goes in and after it gets warm and is flowing nicely, the bits which are loosened come off into the oil, so you end up with hard bits floating around in your oil - the last thing you want. If you really want to flush the oil system, the best thing you can do is drain out the oil that is in there, put in some cheap (the cheapest you can find) mineral oil and run the car for an hour or so, until the oil gets nice and warm. After running it, drain out the mineral oil and put in the correct oil.

Cheers

Tim

DONT USE A ENGINE FLUSH

i did years ago in a 2.8 granny but what happened was that all the rubbish was still left in the engine/sump[even after draining] then about a week later the car came to a halt.all the gunge that i had flushed out had blocked the oil pump gauze so starved the engine of oil and....... if you use engine flush you had better be prepaired to strip the engine to clean the oil ways, take of the sump to clean that as well and if you going to do that you dont need a engine flush!!!!

Cheers guys i'll just leave it then. Omega, the old 2.8 engines are notorious for oil pump problems anyway so it would have just been a matter of time before the stone age piece of garbage seized up :P
