Recommended Posts

Just called up admiral to enquire about changing from my 13inch steelies to another set of wider 13inch steelies, expecting at least a 'policy adjustment charge' or something, but they said its absolutely fine, theyll add the notes to the policy and there will be no charges whatsoever!

fair play to admiral :)

I have always found Admiral are very reasonable with mods and changing policy details. I changed my insured car with them 7 times in the last year and hardly had to pay any charges. Even just insured my modified evo with them at a sensible price (i'm only 21, most people won't even quote me on it).

I also have nothing bad to say about Admiral - did me a very good quote and was no hassle at all taking it out!

Admiral have always been very good for me, though not had to make a claim yet touch wood.

Recently i took out a new policy with them because i did not know they did auto renewals, the policy worked out a lot cheaper to have on the renewal, so i phoned and cancelled the other one, no problem, no charges either because my post had been going to the wrong pigeon hole for the last few weeks so they wavered the cancellation charge.

My only gripe with them was calling up to cancel my automatic renewal. A friend got hit with an auto renewal, but never received any paperwork, just had money taken from their card (as per Admiral Ts&Cs yes, but not ideal!).

I was 6 months in, spoke to a girl and explained what I wanted to do and why.

6 weeks later got a letter through thanking for my business and to confirm I'd cancelled my policy. After a good few hours of phone calls, I'd got nowhere at all, only offering was for me to take out another policy.

Took umpteen phone calls, 3 letters from each party and a further 6 weeks to get someone to take it seriously (fobbed off by first two), the group head of Customer Support ended up calling me. One of their colleagues had reinstated my policy by then (but could not confirm I was covered in the previous 8 weeks!), and I calmly explained my worries, followed up by a polite but firm letter.

Basically pointed out that I never asked for cancellation (they listened back to tapes and confirmed this), they had not followed their cancellation policy as specifically states certificate to be sent back before cancellation undertaken (which they again agreed with), and that the handling of it all was unacceptable (more agreement and assurances they were putting safeguard in place ASAP).

They refunded the remainder of the years policy then, confirmed cover for the period between my first call and the new certificate, and confirmed there would be no automatic renewal.

3 months later I got my letter through with "you do not have to do anything" auto-renewal crap. Needless to say I called the head of Customer Support again, turns out she was no longer in employment...

To be fair, a lot of insurers (mainly specialists) will not charge for a wheel change or indeed most cosmetic modifications.
