Hi all,

Just a quick question,

In the pass side headlamp/rad area theres a small metal cylinder with a brown plug and two wires dissapearing into the mess that is, sorry no pictures so a thousand words it is.

Just wondering what it is/does? ballast unit or capacitor? or is it a switch?

asking as it ended up trapped between the relocated MAF and rad, so melted the plug!!!

Thanks for any help,

Bob

There are two of these, they are a resistor, one is for the dim-dip sidelights, the other is for the slow speed of the radiator fan.

Thankyou,

are they both on the pass side? oh and when does the fan run on low speed setting? would explain the higher temps when idle.

The rad switch is usually clipped to the rad, the dim-dip is down behind the passenger headlight. There is a loose plug off the rad fan loom that can be shorted out to test the 2 fan speeds. It's a 3 pin plug, pretty sure if you short the centre pin to either side it'll start the fan on slow/fast. Do a search to confirm that though, been a long time since I had grief/fixed it :)
