Question About : Thread & Tapping Of Compbrake Wishbones

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've a question about compbrake 205 rose jointed wishbones. Recently I crash my car on track and the rose jointed (the big one under the hub) has snatch the tapping inside the wishbone.

I've tryed to mesure the tapping of the compbrake rose jointed but here in France we use metric system and it seems that the rose jointed use imperial system.

So to save my wishbone I need to know the exact thread of the rose jointed, with this, I'll order the correct tap to fabric new wishbones end..

(sorry for my english but i've tried to exprime as clear as possible my problem)

I've read some posts who said : 3/4UNF or 7/8UNF, can someone tell me the good size ?

auxiliary question : where can I buy the correct tap on internet ?

I cannot help on the technical side but compbrake would be able to tell you the thread of their rose jointed ends. They are not popular here as they do not work with anti roll bars in place

Measure the rose joint you have bent, what is the size of the outer diameter of the threaded piece, how many threads are there per 1 inch??

I have do that, so : outer diameter : 19mm and 16TPI, so it's the equivalent of 3/4"UNF. I've ordered taps on ebay.

Batfink : yeah I know the problem with ARB but here in France we make this modification and it works fine :

Simply heat the ARB and bend it to avoid wishbones

Is bending the ARB do-able yourself? Heat it with a torch and bend it, or should a specialist do this? I guess that you change the spring rate of the steel by heating and bending. I would like some more info on the solution if that is possible.

The work was a home-made solution ! Better is to cool down the ARB slowly after heating to keep mechanical properties. Some guys here in France use these solution on track since 20-30000miles without any problem.
