Different Colour Injectors

Recommended Posts

Densel16

sorry for bringing this up, as i'm sure it has been asked before. I'm thinking of buying a 1.9 in a 1.6 shell and want to make sure that it's a 1.9. I believe that they had different colour injectors on both, and are there and differences i would be able to see on the ecu..??? I also remember from previous ones i have owned (but not for 20 years) that the stub axles are different on the 1.9 gearboxed ones. Will i need to replace these, the discs and master cylinder and rear beam, or could i just get by with changing the stub axles and calipers on the front or would i be better off leaving the 1.6 box. Also would it make a difference to my insurance if i tell them about the mod..?? Regards Denz

A search would have revealed all you need to know.

Injectors will be yellow, AFM number ends in 109, ECU number ends in 359, there'll be a 10mm or so spacer between the block and sump.

I'd personally retain the 1.6 box yes. The gearbox doesn't affect the stub axles or drivetrain, i think you're confusing yourself. You don't need to touch the stub axles, if you want to fit 1.9 running gear you can as it is, or even just the 1.9 calipers then you can do so, straight to what's on there now. The rear beam is fine too, of course all these changes are possible, but not 'needed'.

Yes it would probably make a small difference to insurance depending on the company, modifications.

It is perfectly possible to run a 1.9 engine on 1.6 ECU, AFM and injectors though, so don't automatically assume that it's a 1.6 engine if these parts are still fitted.

An engine code of "D6B" near the alternator, and a spacer plate between the sump and engine block are two things to look for to identify a 1.9 engine.

To be honest though, the different characteristics and delivery of a 1.6 and 1.9 engine should give it away pretty quickly when you test drive it!

i ran a search on injectors and came across this thread, so wouldnt mind adding an extra question...

I have 2 spare inlet manifolds in my garage (had a sort out yesterday) and three sets of injectors, one blue, one yellow, one purple(??)

Pretty sure im clear on the blue being 1.6, yellow 1.9, but stumped on the purple. Was told years ago that they were competition injectors...?

Any info much appreciated.

Get the code number from the side of one of them and do a google search on it. Should tell you easily what vehicle they are from and the max flow rate.
