Saxo Battery Light Problems

Recommended Posts

tidypug

Hi all, I know this isn't 205 related but as there's a lot of knowledgable people on here I thought this be the best place to ask.

I have a 1996 saxo 1.1, I got the car for very little but with no MOT. The fail sheet wasn't hurrific so thought I'd sort it out as a cheap run about.

The problem I have is I think someone has fitted a none saxo alternator to it as the battery light is on very dimmly all the time the iginition is on, whether the engine is running or not. The reason I think its not a saxo alternator is that I have noticed a 2 pin plug next the alternator thast has been tie wrapped to the loom. The battery is charging with 14 volts all the time. So does anyone have any ideas?

thanks

J

I can tell you that the alternator loom on a Paxo is incorporated into the ECU loom. No 2 pin plug near the alternator on the engine I'm swapping right now....The alternator wires wrap around the cambelt cover to the back where it joins the ECU part of the loom.

Sorry, there is a 2 pin plug near the alternator I noticed today. It's green and not used.

Right ok, so at least it looks like its the right alternator. Wonder if its an earth issue?

Worth checking.....the loom and battery earth onto the gearbox on different studs.

Has this been covered a few times but relating to 205's?

People have cured by various ways, obviously depending on the actual problem with any one car;

-new alternator

-as suggested bad earth

-some people have replaced the main, thick wiring with new

start with the cheapest and go up laugh.gif I used to get it very slightly on the Rallye but never did anything about it.

I've had another look at this today as its bugging me. What I have noticed is the battery light is on dimmly all the time, the battery charge light never comes on brightly even on the first click off the ignition. I have disconnected the alternator charge wire, this made no difference. So could this be an earthing issue still? I have tried using a piece of wire as a temporary earth but made no difference.

Any other ideas are greatly appreciated

13.4 volts, that doesn't change no matter what's running

If everything is working OK and its charging OK, I would take the advanced step of "removing the bulb" from the battery light and have done....

Have you tried a different battery? Could have a cell on the way out and be causing the issue under load....
