Stalling When Warm

Recommended Posts

Mart Pug

I know this one is a common problem, and after reading all the info using the search facility on here, I need to know what to try next.

So, it's basically stalling after it's been running for 5 or 10 mins, Ie when you come to traffic lights etc:

I've changed for new parts:

ECU temp sensor

Plugs

Leads

Dizzy cap

Rotor arm

Also cleaned out the air flow meter and throttle body with carb cleaner.

What should I try next?

Car is a standard 1.9 8v.

I also suspect my SAD needs replacing, as it needs a bit of throttle for 2 mins on cold starts - could a faulty SAD be related to it stalling when warm??

Have you looked at your TPS? A sign it is working is it clicks when moving the throttle slightly, ideally need to test the resistance though to be sure.

Hi mate, yeah TPS does click, but haven't checked the resistance, mainly cos I don't have the tool for it.

Any tips on a good value resistance checker I could buy (are they called voltmeters?)

Any multimeter will suffice for basic car work, pick one up in Maplins or any DIY store for a tenner. It just needs to be able to measure DC voltage and resistance.

With respect to your stalling it sounds similar to issues I'm having and I've done similar work to my car as you so watching this thread with interest,

Does the car restart right away or have you got to let it cool down?

When you set the idle speed was the car up to running temperature?

Hey large.

Yeah when it stalls, it restarts straight away with no problems.

And yes, I set the idle to 1000 rpm when it was fully warmed through (after the fan had cut in).

Interestingly, it will idle fine when on the drive, even when it's up to operating temperature - but then as soon as I blip the throttle and let the revs come back down, it stalls.

Very frustrating!

My Mi did this and it was an air leak after the AFM.

I sense this could be a tricky one to resolve.

How did you sort the air leak? New pipes I assume.

Easy to check for air leaks, run the car, cover the intake, see if she stalls.
