Ooh Dear... Ooj's Days Are Numbered!

:lol: Maxi, I don't think breaking a 205 is a fasion, or a fad, it's just simple economics for some people.

You have to accept that there's a different mix of owners, from pure casual to hardcore enthusiast. And different personal circumstances will come in to play for everyone of those owners, and dictate the future of their 205. For those who find themselves with a decision to make about their 205 - if they've had a prang, discovered it's rotten (like OOJ), got half way through a project only to hit a financial brick wall etc etc - sometimes the decision has to be ruled by the pocket. And if that means you can recoup more from breaking, then sadly that's the obvious choice to make.

I regret having my graphite grey 1.9 crushed a few years ago, but then I regret the unecessary loss of any otherwise good car (I even felt bad about crushing my rubbish old Civic!). It probably didin't need much more than a little bit of welding and a respray, but I didn't have the means (cash, time, skills, space etc) to put it right, and I was sure that nobody else would be as stupid as I was to pay any decent money for it. Cue the replacement cherry red 1.6 for £400, the graphite got stripped, good parts were reused on the cherry, many other bits sold/donated to others to keep their 205s alive, and some parts are still with me now and will find there way on to my white Mi.

In a perfect world, nothing would be wasted. Even the little items that we all have cluttering up our homes, from pieces of plastic trim, to various engine parts. These often get binned too, when they become a burden on space, and nobody else seems to want them. Sadly I've done that numerous times too -_- . 205 shells are dwindling, but so are parts, so breaking is a necessary evil.

Those who break 205s purely as a business are a different matter though <_< Again, they may be helping the wider community by maintaining the flow of parts, but that's not a good thing if they are coming from otherwise useable 205s that need very little to keep them alive in the first place.

Edit: I agree with you about the track 205 fasion as well. Not so bad if they can be returned to standard easily enough, but a real shame when they get cut to bits to lighten them. I've always told myself that if I was ever at a point in my life where I could afford to indulge in a track project, I'd start with a base model shell instead. But is that any more excusable? :unsure::lol:

I know that 306 GTI's are been broken unnecessarily as a fad to make money. Then again once this has been done for a while and there is less of them about, then 306 GTI6's will eventually go up in price as they are very cheap in value at the moment. I think once we have less 205 gti's they will also go up in price as they are at the moment. Its still sad to see any 205 being broken but when its far too gone then that one can help keep other on the road, which is a good thing in my eye's.

I still feel you are all missing the point. Im not going to harp on any longer and face ridicule. The proof is in the pudding as they say. All I ask is keep this thread in the back of your minds.

We're not missing the point mate, we can all tell you clearly have an issue.

This thread is here to document the end of a forum legend and more-so in my opinion to highlight the fact at which the cars are disintegrating and where.

I really can't see why you're harping on anyway Ads, you claim it's nothing personal or direct, yet you're continually claiming i break good cars when i clearly don't, because i still have those, or i've sold or would sell them on, i probably sell an equal amount of 205's to the ones i break to be frank, although perhaps not so much recently. I love 205's as much as anyone, but self preservation is more important than old peugeot preservation when it reaches the point when they become uneconomic to repair, i offer everything to people before the shells go, i don't have unlimited space so can't keep everything forever. It's a shame yes, but it's not like they're sought after like Mk1 & 2 escorts etc, and tbh, they won't be either, at least not still for a few years, 5 or so i reckon, and even thn they'll still not be worth the same.

Also, irrelevant of how popular the cars are/were or what you think of them, it's exactly the same as what you've done to MANY a BX/405, just to rip out their heart for little other reason, i'm not having a dig either, but when it's probably in the region of 50+ (no?) i don't think you have a leg to stand on to be making such a point to be fair.

If a few rotten, already cut about or raped in some way or just un-economic to repair shells (which are the ONLY cars i buy with a view away to break, already crap basically) are cubed to keep a good few more alive, then where's the harm? They're not *that* rare yet, they never were compared to some cars, like the 405 Mi16 and BX16v, just for example! ;)

Any road, we're going round in pointless circles... back on topic.... :D

OOJ has now gone, i cut the roof and a few other parts worth saving off her, but whilst doing so, it became actually how apparent how absolutely f*cked the shell was, it started splitting along the seam between the floor pan and rear-seat section;

th_IMG_0920-1.jpg

And yes the rigidity is mostly in the roof, but the rear quarters literally peeled away from the floor pans/sill alarmingly easily.

th_IMG_0929.jpg

th_IMG_0931.jpg

The seat mounts... thank whatever lord you like i didn't have an accident in the thing, again serving as what shouldn't be needed to me anyway of yet another reminder to pull the carpet up on ALL these cars and check them, they crack, rust and disintegrate at an alarming rate;

Just out of interest, when did OOJ last go through an MOT?

I'm not surprised the rear quarters peeled away so easily. My graphite shell had split it's spot welds on both sides and both quarters were loose. You could put a finger in and pull the panel away, and when I was inside the stripped shell I could see the road underneath when looking down.

Poor OOJ

TBH, I dont treat an MOT as any sign of corrosion free motoring any more- my midget *still* had an MOT when we pulled it (fell) apart due to some chronic structural rust..

(both rear suspension mountings- probablly the strongest part of a midget on a sound car)

And to think I strongly debated putting it back on the road after the winter and using up the rest of the MOT (a few months)

But it looks like OOJ was well on its way to being as rusty as my midget, so its no real shame it has gone..

As Keith said, Feb '10 in his hands. I knew it wouldn't go through another MOT so i didn't bother.

Nothing's really surprised me tbh, i could put about three fingers up into the inner sill next to the tank into the box section, the rear towing eye's been m issing for years since Ben/James_R tried to tow something with it, it just pulled straight off!! Strangely though, the bumper mounting and square section above it was mint on the same side!

Thinking about it, it reminds me of the Wheeler Dealer's shed, you could get a few fingers inside the car where the seam had rotten away between the bulkhead and floor pan, and a finger in a hole above the rear quarter window! That one had gone in really odd places!! :lol:

I think the saving grace of this car was the engine, bodies & management and that is why it changed hands for the amounts it did.

I remember driving to Cardiff and agreeing to buy it with collection the following weekend. We then drove 3 hours home.

The following week we drove 3 hours back to Cardiff.

I drove it off Bens drive, round the roundabout into the M&S and the Mrs said "I'm never getting in that shed of a car" :lol:

My '6 will go Bwarrrp at some point though.

This was just mentioned in a conversation i had with DCC earlier, so thought i'd add a little update!

I miss it alot at the moment as i was using it a fair bit around this time two years ago! Was a lot of fun in this weather!!

I found this pic the other day from an old HDD of it at one of the Sprints i abused it on;

I'm really happy to report that it's helped others live on; The engine now resides back in it's original home, a 405 Mi16 belonging to MrTeflon, which makes me smile! :D

The Jenveys are, i believe on a 309 Goodwood, owned by Crossle and the loom & Emerald ECU i've actually ended up getting back somehow! :lol:

I think the front wings are on AndyC's/Feb's sold Sorrento(?), the seats and harnesses are in Taylorspug's Silver 205 'GYB', the dash is going into my silly white 205 and the cage is down south somewhere in another 205! I still have the suspension & brakes and a few other little bits! :)
