Nearly There! - Vts Conversion

Recommended Posts

shalmaneser

I'm getting pretty close to finishing my VTS conversion, woop!!! got the crown wheels swapped round today after dropping the subframe - not too much hassle at all, actually.

However, I've got a couple of minor issues I'd like to share with the group.

I'm retaining the 205 filter system due to my use of power steering. However attaching the VTS fuel rail to the car is a bit of a nightmare - I assumed the high pressure line was 8mm and the low pressure line was 6mm but it looks like it's 10/8 - can someone confirm this? There certainly ain't no way you can get a 8mm fuel line on the high pressure side of the fuel rail!

Also, I'd like to bend the output on the power steering pump round about 90 degrees, and it's a bloody nightmare - i really really don't want to snap it off, are people REALLY just using brute force and hammers?!?!!? are there no secret tricks?

pretty sure they are different sizes on the fuel rail. One is definitely bigger than the other. Off the top of my head its 10 in and 8 out.

I think you may be talking about further down the lines. Both fuel lines from the tank are 8mm but once they get up near the fuel rail the 90 degree adaptor on the pressure side converts it to 10mm. Sure someone will confirm either way shortly.

That makes sense - It's 8mm from the solid lines to the filter, then 10mm from the filter to the rail then 8mm back from the rail to the solid lines.

I'm also gonna use the 10mm fuel lines for the power steering return, given that it's petrol proof PS fluid shouldn't bother it.

The fuel feed is supposedly 10mm at the rail but I had nothing but trouble trying to get a 10mm hose to seal.

I eventually fitted a 8mm hose, dipped it in hot water for a while to get it nice and supple and it slipped on fine.

8 and 10 on a 6 engine should be exactly same on vts. Never had any problems
