Getting Hot

I have a slight issue with the Civic at the moment.

 

It seems to take a while to get up to temp but it does eventually and when driving around town the temp is fine.

 

When I sit in traffic it has started to get hot and I can't hear the fans kicking in.

 

I thought it might be to the fan switch etc not working but I was driving home last night (very cold out) along an A road and I noticed the temp dropped right down to nearly cold.

 

Am I right in thinking I could have an issue with the thermastat?

 

Would a thermastat problem cause the fan not to work either?

If your stat is sticking open and/or closed it could be giving you the problems you are seeing.
