I Have My 205 Back

Recommended Posts

Batfink

For the first time in (i think) three years I tucked up my 205 in the garage. Got up at 4am to drive to Colin Satchell and collect it.

Only about 10 hours of driving so i'm bloody tired especially as I was racing this weekend.

Weird thing was maturin23 (who kindly lent me his trailer) spotted me driving along around Taunton but with my zombie stare, the radio blaring and my hands free kit plugged in to my ears I failed to hear his tooting <_<:D

Colins done a cracking job with the final bits. The seat is basically as low as possible with the chassis cut away to accommodate it, and it now has a removable steering wheel. Shell needs a fair bit of work now as its been in storage since 2004 so I think its going to have to be an acid dip and respray.

Pushing the rolling chassis around was effortless so I think its light :D

Looks like I have a lot of work to do now!

Its dark and raining. Admittedly I did get distracted with popping the steering wheel off and giving the mechanism a good slap of grease. Will take a few tomorrow morning

ok you will have to put up with bad pictures. The trailer and car fill up most of the garage and the only way in to the car is through the missing windscreen. Everything is wet as it was raining on the way back..

My seat..

the steering wheel. I need to add more buttons

It looks good from the limited pics. I bet you still finish before me!

What about media blasting it?

I bet Colin is mega busy at the moment.

I was thinking acid dip will be more effective but I dont really know the pro's and con's of either to say which is better. Acid dipping will be less labour intensive I guess.

Colin is trying to clear through his collection of customer cars. He wants to focus more on machining parts rather than building cars.

I dont think I will finish before you. My gearbox needs a lot of money thrown at it too. I've run out for the moment as most of my spare cash goes on Kart racing.

Looks like the start of a very good car.

Do you remember where you got the A pillar gusset from and what size it is?

Ah ok.

I'm goin to buy some off the shelf. Not too expensive (unless you buy from demonthieves) but still a few quid.

Lookin' rustic, Kev!

It was a bizarre moment - I was 'making progress' coming back from Devon to London with the family - saw a 205 GTI on a trailer in the middle lane ahead, thought it would be hilarious if it was Batfink, but thought he'd already made the trip. Came alongside, beeped the horn a few times, but just couldn't wake him :P

I think the 309 will be rolling out of Colins workshop in about a month. Then its all the fun things like wiring.
