Rebuild Best Place To Get Parts

Recommended Posts

TKH

I got last year a 205 GTI 1.9 that had an electric fire. In my spare time I have rebuilt it and got it ready for its MOT and VIC test. However I am now thinking I have spent so much time and money on it already why not go all out and do a full restoration. So I am now thinking of replacing pretty much everything. Lights, Wheel bearings, Dampers, Brake lines, Master cylinder, Hand brake cables, Drive shafts, Suspension arms, Radiator, Recon brakes, Recon steering rack, Recon rear beam and well the works. Can any one recommend a good place to buy all the bits? Preferably quality parts as I tend to work on the theory you buy cheap you buy twice.

Cheers

PS can you still get the electric window actuator units?

Your local motor factors, GSF car parts and your local peugeot dealer are the main places you'll get these parts.

For things like electric window motors, you will be able to find someone on here in the for sale section that will have a pair of good second hand ones, to save you buying new.

Miles

Be carefull with factors from experance, a few can carry sub standard parts although they will never admit this, I will name Vtech as finding wheel bearings that rumble within a couple of thousand miles and boots that split within 12 months,

Motaquip is what I mainly use now being under the Pug tree as to speak so is as close to OE as you will get in most cases

Motorquip and GSF for most bits that you dont wanna get from Peugeot.

When placing an order with GSF make sure you specify OE quality parts. They carry cheapo and OE spec.

Sounds like you are making a nice job, personally I would be very selective in what you buy from GSF, I have had quite a lot of poor quality suspension and driveline parts from them to the point that I will not use them now for any suspension/steering/driveline stuff. I've had wishbones with a service life of 6 months, wheel bearings with play after 1000 miles, knocking recon shafts, the list goes on.

They seem OK for things such as radiators, brake discs and pads.

I did an overhaul on a car for a chap on here last year, we ended up replacing all 4 dampers, new springs, new wheel bearings, new wishbones, recon steering rack, new driveshafts. It really did transform the car into a nice tight and rewarding thing to drive. Something you may want to consider whilst doing the work is slightly upgraded parts in places, not to race car levels of stiffness, still retaining comfort, but with slight upgrades over standard.

TKH, nice to see you on here! :-P Your car is pretty dam good as it is. However, go to Peugeot and try to get trade discount, due to the quantity of things it'll make a huge difference.

Look here for part numbers which will make ordering alot easier.

GSF will be good for certain items, eg, heater matrix is only £20, but as already mentioned, watch out for inferior recon parts like driveshafts which as ive discovered are just down right crap.
