Where Are All The Tu Spec 205's?

Recommended Posts

As the title really I'm looking to buy one in a month or two where have they all gone? :)

When they do come up some of them have been utter dogs...

Did the scrappage scheme kill most of them off?

Yeah the scrappage scheme was a real 205 killer, especially when people don't realise the potential in a TU!!!

I managed to find mine on Autotrader last year, it was £675 but it had only done 35k!

They are still about and they are going cheap but I don't think you'll find many on online traders, just keep your eyes peeled! Ones on here will probably be more expensive as they get more respect.

Just old age and lack of following compared to the gti.

I doubt very much that the scrappage scheme actually had much at all to do with it, how many old 205 drivers would realistically be able to afford to buy a brand new car?

It's the £500-£2K price range that was decimated by fools easily parted with their cash/persuaded into finance deals.

I only saw one scrappage scheme 205 and that was a near mint white Rallye. Idiots.

its a shame really, you used to be able to pick up an xs for £200 all day long. now you're lucky if you can find one

It is a shame, XS's are becoming as rare as Rallye's. I picked up my XS for £250 with NO MOT or Tax! I cost a very small amount to put through so that was good. I got my Rallye again with MOT or Tax and with the head gasket ;) and paid £400 for it (advertised for £500), I was blinded by the Rallyeness of it.

I see XS's, GT's etc going for £600, £700+ on the bay. They are worth holding onto and keeping in good nic.

I got a nice K plate 1.1 Junior for £250 with MOT but no tax ;) But I agree, XS prices are definitely on the up.

Being pushed up by the prohibitive costs of insuring a gti for new drivers maybe ?

Although i do know one 17 year old lad paying nearly £4K to insure a 205 GL !!

Not quite, they're 85bhp. But combined with their light weight and low ratio gearboxes, they offer surprisingly quick acceleration.

yeah so i have heard! 85bhp as standard in a light 80s car is not bad at all.

I'm closely recording my running costs at the moment, I'v got between 30mpg - 41mpg out of my 104,000 XS - <_<

And thats not trying all that hard to drive economically either.

There is an early xs in my local scrap yard with tilted back style engine (mounts in the shell are no where near a normal 205 shell) on twin webers as standerd wonder if its worth much?

XY engined ones, up to 87ish I think. They, unfortunately really aren't worth anything -_- I had one briefly back when I didn't know anything and thought I could put the twin webers on my Rallye (there were no pictures of the engine bay and I didn't know about the XY engines back then ) Just sold it again as a super rare phase one XS on ebay and made a profit! haha.
