Boot Light Switch

Hi all,

 

Can anyone tell me where the switch is located for the light in the boot of a 1987 205 gti? (The one that operates when the tailgate is opened and closed)

There is a roller switch behind the black plastic trim on the tailgate. Where the wiper motor etc etc is.

I had this problem years ago. Tried a fixing the switch, it has two ball bearings inside. This didn't work. Tried a new switch which worked for a few years, then stuck on. I got fed up with it and removed the bulb and put a small torch in the car!

I had the opposite problem of it rarely coming on, even after swapping the switch - one of the less clever ideas in a Pug.

They do. Right in the middle at the top by the rubber seal.
