Fitting Lower Engine Mount

Recommended Posts

shalmaneser

This is a massive ball ache.

I've got an uprated lower engine mount from BBM, and having got the knackered old mount out I'm having huge amounts of trouble getting the new one in!!! (thats what she said, etc etc)

My friendly local garage gave it a go, but cos of the funny shape of the casting and the width of the mount couldn't press it in.

How are people doing theirs? I've given peugeot a call but no doubt they'll be bloody useless.

Can anyone in Brighton or the nearby area do it for beer money?!?!!

They're few and far between, but I saw a red gti with a mesh grill on Lewis road yesterday!

There are a few 306 gti6s about too....

Give me a wave if you see me!!!!

EDIT: peugeot want £30 plus VAT!!!!

When i did mine i used a combination of a big vice, the old mount metal outer sleeve, a fair bit of swearing and some tears. Worry not though, the worst part is out of the way; thats getting the old one out!

Have you still go the old mount? These are ideal to make a nice tool to press the new one in

I've used an old wheel bearing outer race before, just happened to be the right size.

there is a proper Peugeot/Citroen tool, though I don't know if many dealerships or specialists will have them as quite a few listings on servicebox show the complete unit only, even if it is replaceable.

Try heating the mount in the oven for a while

Mind your fingers though when getting it out

I put the mount in the freezer for a couple of hours, and the housing in the oven on the lowest setting for 15 minutes, then tapped the mount in by going round the edge with a hammer.
