Bearings For A Gti6

Recommended Posts

cheesegrater

Bonjour

Basically I've stripped the bottom end of my GTi6 and want to put new bearings in there. The measurements are as follows:

Crank bearing sizes (mm)

Main1- 59.96

big end1- 49.98

M2- 59.96

Be2- 49.98

M3- 59.96

Be3- 50.00

M4- 59.95

Be4- 49.95

M5- 59.95

Can I still get away with running standard bearings? Or will I need a regrind and oversized shells?

Thanks.

Whats the standard crank journal sizes & are they within the normal range for standard bearings?

If the mains are 60mm as standard & big ends 50mm then from looking at the 2.0l Mi16 journal sizes & tolerances you are well within the range for standard bearings.

Loking at the ZX Haynes I have the main bearing running clearances of 0.038-0.050mm & big ends running clearance of 0.025 - 0.050mm.

Graham.

sounds just about within spec, was it rattling or knocking at all?

any marking or discolourationn on the journals?

There are a few different size top shells for them, with a singe size bottom shell, there should be some paint markings on the caps, mine were green, these indicate which spec bearing was used in the original build.

Mine are green too I was wondering what that was about. I bought the engine out of the car but was told it was gwo and had service history to go with. I'll measure the bearing widths I'm pretty sure they were the same width. There is a faint mark on one of the big end journals. I'll get a pic up later to see what you reckon.

Back again!

Went to peugeot and they didn't list any bearings for green coded mains for some reason. Big ends were 7.70 apparently for a set?!

I'll have a look on servicebox later if I remember, I didn't replace the mains in my engine as I'd only had the rods out, I used J4R Big end bearings there as they are MUCH cheaper at £25 a set, I did check with Sandy if these would be an ok spec and he said he had used them in a race engine or two without any issues.
