as its off I'm also going to strip the box so see what state the synchros are in as despite this being a supposed recon box it was difficult to engage and crunched slightly not long after having it fitted.

 

I'll be using this very handy guide

Thats exactly what my 405 one looked like when it went, except the bearing went all the way through :)

dave, no i drive with my foot on the floor and only press the clutch as and when.

 

The friction plate itself is fine there is loads of meat left on it it just appears the spring face has taken some hammering :S

Funnily enough i've been doing my clutch today as well! My pressure plate is a bit worse than that, the bearing is gone and there isn't much friction material left!

realease bearing was still rotating freely although part of the edge was chewed but that because thats where the missing spring teeth had cut into it.

A recon box, you say. Were the nylon bushes for the realease bearing's cross shaft in the right way round? A friend's 205's rebuilt gearbox had them in the wrong way so the release bearing wasn't quite concentric with the gearbox input shaft. The eventual result was much the same damage as in your pic, preceded by a snatchy, juddery action. Might be worth a check.

To be fair they're pretty far out if that's the case though so I would've thought you could tell something was awry long before now.
