8v Turbo Ecu Help

Recommended Posts

I can check tonight which pins had switched 12v, the battery cable runs from the battery to the relay box which supplies power to the dash and then has 2 bolt fittings to the fusebox in the engine bay, the fuses in there are all intact and so are the fuses in the dash

in which case I'm pretty sure the GTI6 loom perm 12v feed comes from the ring spade connector where it connects to the alternator (which inturn is connected back to the battery via the starter) however this isn't the case on the turbo loom.

so what to do

1) On the engine side of the loom/coonector find the wire which goes to pin 6 (the pin which bells out to the perm live connectors at the double relay) and snip the wire about 4 inches or so from the connector on the engine side

2) Run a perm 12v temporarily from the battery to the cut wire on the engine side not the short bit coming from the plug. That should give the loom the required perm 12v

make sure the loom plugs are connected up and report back what you get

also report back which of the pins on the connector(car side) get a switched 12v with the ignition on (do this first before you plug the plugs back together)

Cut the wire and added 12v perm, when ignition switched on only one side of the relay flicked up, no fuel pump prime,

Switched lives were pin 2,3,5,7,9,10,12 and 18

And 11 had 5.59 with ignition on???

ok so now you have perm 12v and switched 12v to the loom the next things to check are

1) double relay - perm 12v @ pins 8, 11, 14 & 15

2) double relay - swiched 12v @ pin2 or pin3

3) ECU plug - perm 12v @ pin 18

4) ECU plug - Earth @ pin 47

Pin 2, 3v

8 11 14 15 all perm 12

ECU pin 47 earthed and pin 18 dead

so pin 2 on dbl relay you dont get switched 12v with ignition on?

regarding ecu pin 18 are you definitely checking the correct pin hole as per the ecu plug diagram in my signature?

If so and you've got no perm +12v to it then you need to put the multimter probe in the pin socket and then bell out the multipin loom connector and identify where this pin goes to & report back

No switched 12 at pin 2 no and working from the numbers on the ECU plug

Just a thought there won't be a perm 12 if it runs to the loom plug as there's no lives there?

Correction there is switched 12 at pin 2! But no perm live at 18

ok so you need to find where the wire from ecu pin 18 goes back to, should be the multiplug. Once you find it put a perm 12v to it.

Going by numbers on the ECU pin 18 is the 2nd on in from the left of the top row?

And is showing no connectivity with any pin on the loom connector

yes that appears to be the right pin, in that case it will be a case of going through the loom connectors/wires a try belling them out till you find where that wire goes to (Try any of the wires near the aternator as a start or any loose wires near the multiplug)

Found it mate, its the green wire that's poking up, it was taped down, would the other wires be important?

All that done, with ignition on only the right handside of the relay is clicking over

And still no fuel pump prime

others are possibly part of the old immobiliser but shouldn't be needed

stick a perm 12v to that and give engine a whirl

Put 12v to it, and still only one side clicking over, no power at fuel pump but 9v at the fuel pump fuse

only one side clicks on engine on position. Once the ecu detects the engine spinning it closes the other relay and the fuel pump runs

have you tried starting the car?

No I turned the key to on position, one side of the relay clicked over, but the fuel pump didn't prime an was showing no voltage at the pump so didn't try, but did test the fuel pump fuse and that is showing 9v now but was showing nothing before, but will try and start it and see what happens
