its been talked about a lot. vts box has the same ratios as the mi16 box, and is a good compramise between the two. and the ratios are suited to your engine.

has short 1/2/3 similar to standard 1.6 box, and 4/5 higher for a good cruising rpm.

how do you mean more pull? do you want closer ratio's or longer ratio's to pull through the gears?

the gti6 box will loose you steering lock.

Gaz, when I first installed my mi i used a 1.9 box and it didnt feel right so when i put the original mi16 box on it came to life. I was told the mi will feel slow without the 4.4 cwp.

What i would like to try one day is a 1.6 box with the mi final drive for lower down acceleration.

I will be doing 2 1.9 box's with 4.4cwp soon,(one to fit asap, and one to fit a diff in when i get one in the future) when i can get hold of a good press. for my vts 205. cant wait to see how it goes with them in

i know what u mean about it not feeling right. just feels like the engine is lacking something acceleration wise, once the engines is up to around the 3500rpm mark it flys, just would like it to get up to that a bit quicker. might try and get hold of a mi16 box.

Whats the car used for?

Commuting use the Mi16 box (or VTS etc), or if it's a fun/2nd car/trackcar then 1.6 all the way.

I'm using my 205 everyday currently, and thats running Mi16 with 1.6 box. My commute to work and back is about 25miles round trip involving B roads. Cannot think of any other car that would be more fun ;)

Ive got mi and 1.6 box, perfect for me, driven it to the ring and it was fine and very good on fuel, its a standad sweet running mi i think it must do/ did 35mpg and some, round the ring its fine, could do with having more "legs" on the long parts but ok! I do have a mi box that i may put in and try this year just out of curiosty!

The difference between 1.6 overall 5th and Mi overall 5th is only 4.7%. Hardly worth worrying about, but the intermediate gears are heaps better.

ie

0.865 x 4.06 = 3.511

0.76 x 4.43 = 3.352

3.511/3.352 = 1.047

if you can stretch to two gearboxes in my opinion the 1.9 gearset with an mi final drive is near unbeatable for the money, i have had the 1.9 gearset on

a 4.1, an mi 4.4, and a motorsport 4.8 FD before, and the 4.8 only made a difference of about 2mph per 1000 revs in 5th gear. compared to the mi 4.4. thats why i have gone back to the 4.4 in my new sprint car

the 1.9 ratios are much better spaced than either the lower gears in a 1.6 box or the higher gears in the mi, speak to Paul Brown at skip brown cars, both he and

Dell say the 1.9/mi is their favourite combination too

The 1.6 & 1.9 boxes have the exact same fifth gear...

My opinion's pretty much the same, a 1.9 box with 4.4FD is fantastic! For a more road-use car i'd go for a 1.6 box as i do, but i don't think there's been many times i've ever thought i could do with anything longer at all.

i've only ever had a 1.6 box, and it's fine on all but the longest / fastest runs.
