I currently have, LDV gear box, engine mounts to suit and S16 block, custom prop and an MX5 diff, next major mile stone is to get the wishbones made, and shot blast then fully weld the chassis and obviously paint it.....

Have you sorted the sump/oil pickup?

My dad has always had plans to build a kit car, he's bought various parts over the years, then changed his mind and bought something else, then changed his mind again and bought different bits and bobs, I doubt he'll ever actually start to build one!

Im going to run the engine in on the std s16 baffled sump then when i have the cash, dry sump it, not worth the hassle or the worry running anything else

I had been toying with the idea of a kit car form months then a half finished chassis became available for not much money with hubs and all sorts so i just bought it and set about adapting it for the mi16

ive looked into using the XU lump for a kit car sometime ago, as said above your have problems with the oil pickup, also your find the engine is very tall, you may have to look into custom making the bonnet as when your sitting in the drivers seat the top of the engine may/will be blocking your view. (based on book chassis)

good to see your got the gearbox/drive sorted.

mite be worth becoming a member of the lococst forum.

i did start on a kitcar zetec build afew years back but a lack of funds/moving and losing the garage meant i had to give it up in the early stages.

will be keeping a close eye on this build.

Mad Scientist

That takes me back. Don't underestimate the time that went onto that chassis! I cut mine all myself with a hacksaw and grinder though! Plus, the measurements in the book were a joke!

Just consider that, on acceleration (which will be brutal) all the oil is going to move away from the oil pickup due to the inline setup.

Good luck with it though..............make sure you complete it!

That is a fair point, i might get the STD sump tig'ed so that the pick up sits in a well so to speak, untill i can get a pace kit

EDIT, just checked, the pace sump/pump set up scavenges from both ends of the sump, Ideal!!

Ditch the XU and stick a bike engine it you can pick some descent engine's for around the £300 mark.

My Toniq R is using 919 Fireblade engine which is bomb proof and come's with a Senqusential gear box as standard.( i did'nt build it)

Owlley i think his name from ppc magazine is about to stick a 406 v6 engine in his kit car on Locostbuilders might be worth keeping an eye on his progress.

is your chassis based on the Haynes roadster?

The main reason i went for that engine is the fact i had it spare, and have everything i need already ( bar the gear box that i forgot to pay for :))

the chassis is loosely based on the haynes roadster, its a combination of the original Ron Champion and later Gibbs design
