Modifying 306 Gti-6 Hubs To Give N/c

I've got one of my 205 1.6 GTI PTS negative camber front hubs at my mates engineering firm for the balljoint sleeving to match the other side & mentioned to him previously about having the shock body hole machining over isze & to the same camber as the PTS hubs with the sleeve to take therm back to the oe sturut body size just like my 1.6 hubs.

 

 

Would many other people be interested in this if I could get a good price on a few sets being done.

 

I'd require those who are interested to send me their 306 hubs & I'll take them to my mates firm for the strut hole machining to the same as my PTS hubs & the sleeve making to suit before returnign them by courier.

 

This would give the same amount of negative camber as the PTS hubs when fitted on 205 wishbones.

 

Please start a list for those who are interested & I'll speak to my mate on friday if there is enough interest to make it worth our while making a jig.

I'm sure there would be a fair bit of interest, price dependant, especially with decent 309 wishbones becoming harder to obtain.

 

The other suggestion is machining 306/Xsara hubs to give standard camber when fitted to a 205 (as opposed to positive camber), as obviously they're plentiful whereas decent 1.9 hubs are getting difficult to get hold of, judging from the number of wanted posts I see crop up for them and how long it seems to take them to get hold of one. Problem is that the price to do this would have to be cheaper than buying a 1.9 hub, and I can't see the machining being cheap enough.

 

That said, the above would probably interest 306 owners too, as that would effectively be a negative camber hub for a 306 then.

Not exactly but from the info gathered in my inital topic asking about the PTS Group A 1.6 hubs general answers said 1' but I found another topic suggesting 1.5'.

Good idea about the 306 drivers, I hadn't really thought of that but I could probably also include the balljoint sleeve to make 18mm balljoint hubs fit the 205 16mm baljoint for an additional charge.

16mm 306 hubs are still plentiful, so probably no "need" - although of course, the option would be appreciated by some I'm sure.

If you can sleeve the hubs on a 1.9/1.6 hub and also machine them for extra camber then I imagine you would get a lot of takers as that means 306 hubs won't have to be used, just whatever any one already has

Rich, the main thing about using current old 205 hubs is the balljoint hole gap, if they have closed up as much as some I've seen then I wouldn't advise doing any of the above but on hubs that are in good condition its a good avenue to explore.

 

The reason I'm offering it for 306 hubs is because I'm having a set done myself using my 1.6 PTS hub as a template but the setting up will be different for 205 hubs so a different jig would be needed adding to the cost.

 

If someone wanted the balljoint sleeving on an existing hub I'd want to see pictures of the balljoint hole gap before anything else.

 

I asked when I was passing earlier & the price for the machining to the same as the PTS hub & sleeve making is £40 per hub.

Paul (Pdd144c) has a contact who can do it and he's done a few for 306 forum members, not sure what the cost was or how much extra camber was gained.

If the 306 was simply fitted with 205 GTI 1.9 hubs on 16mm balljoints it would gain a little n/c straight away so the PTS settings on a 306 ought to see between 1-2' n/c depending on what these hubs actually give as standard.

 

Alastair, I'd prefer to do them on a turn around basis for people who want them doing rather than being lumped with stock of something there doesn't appear to be much interest in atm.

 

They have had an influx of work so mine haven't been done yet but they are promised for next week so I'll post a picture of the converted hubs when I have them back.

I finally had chance to collect the modified 306 hubs last week & here are the results;

 

 

 

 

Price is £30 per hub & they can be set to give more camber by shiming the jig they made to suit but as yet the actual amount of negative camber they give isn't known exactly but it is at least 1'.

 

Anyone interested in a set they have modifying, please drop me a pm about it.

I read up and see your reasoning behind not going for the 205 hubs, but since im running a 1.6 setup would like to use some 1.6 hubs.

 

Any chance you could get me a price on them rather than 306 hubs or is it all going to be too much hassle?

Ed, price is the same (there is no change to the amount of machining work needed) but it's at your risk using older hubs & ideally they need to have A1 balljoint holes without any closing of the slot in the hub.

 

I can get any 205 /309 /306 / Xsara hub machined the same but for the reason above, it's at your choice.

I've just got my milling machine up and running so when I've got it properly set up I'm planning to make a jig to enable boring out and resleeving of the bottom ball joint holes.

Nice, I can also offer this at the same time for an additional charge but will insist on seeing good pictures of the hubs first to see if I think its worthwhile doing to them.
