No i have never tried a vts but my 205 with is rally suspension handles very well.Last week end was the first time out on a rally with it and after an 8 month layoff i was really pleased.I have changed a lot of things on the car, so i am still getting use to it ie no servo. The stages were very wet and covered in cow s h*t and i only had road Yoks and on some of the strights i was doing about 110 and fish tailing but it still went where i wanted it to go. My problem at the moment is i,am running about 215bhp with standard 1900 brakes and once i have upgraded them and my crap 205 gear linkage i will have a great rally car.

hardley a fortune if it is what you want? heres a bit of advice for you... if you prefer the 8v engine, keep it. if you dont like a 16v in a 205 dont fit it. was that hard?

i have no idea why you started this thread as you had no intention of actualy getting the vts engine fitted in your mint 1.6 205, or the 'other car with no engine'

i dont think you have anything to say now do you? maybe start nitting your hair into a rope ladder so you can try and climb out of your hole.

I did think about putting the vts engine in because the Xsara was so cheap, I've not got to try and get out of a hole as I said before it isnt going to happen now because my wife is pregnant and Im just not going to have the money, Ive now sold all my 205s and kept the Xsara because it is bigger and with 2 kids its the better choice for me. When I started the thread we didn't know she was pregnant, and my family come before the 205's.

Dont mean to affend anyone it was just my opinion, ive had a 205 with a vts/gti-6 engine, and yes it was good fun but didn't seem as nimble as the 1.9 8v.

I'm in almost literally the exact same situation as you. Bought a Xsara VTS for the engine when the belt on my 309's 1.9 8v broke in the winter (no bent valves, perfect excuse for an upgrade though). Driving around in the Xsara to keep me mobile in the mean time, I really liked it. confortable, well mannered, quiet, handles well (love the quicker rack on it) and in it's factory home the engine is quite pokey with 40mpg+ easily (by that I mean I gave it a pasting from time to time) attained on my 180mile A/B road drive from North - South Wales.

Thing is, it still just isn't a better car. On paper, I should be selling the 309 for spares/repairs and putting the money into the VTS, but I'm not, because I don't get that sense of pride when I park it up in town or outside the house. It has no character. The interior with it's well laid out controls & dashboard, airbags, trip computer, steering wheel radio controls, comfy seats with lighter/smoother mechanism for rear passenger access and lockable glove box is all lovely and practical, but that's it... Mine's a silver phase 2, so on the outside bears no comparison to a black p2 309 - it's hideous! Consequently the engine is being lifted out of it today and will be going into the 309 over easter instead of this weekend as I'm waiting on a few parts, but I know it'll be worth the wait.
