Gti-6 Conversion, How Much?

Recommended Posts

CTI STU

Ive got a Citroen Xsara VTS and had the thought of having the engine/gearbox fitted into my Gti, any idea's how much it would cost if I got someone to do it?

Not 100% sure its want I want to do with either of the cars, The 205 is a clean non-sunroof 1.6 and the Citroen is a low milage car with 10 months mot and tax and is also a tidy car

a lot im going to say in labour costs. is the xsara a phase 1 or 2?

you need to make sure who you get to do it does a proper job, with adapted exhaust manifold and downpipe.

if the 205 is realy clean, why not leave it alone? and buy one already done, i would say it would be cheaper.

Told ya! It did seem strangely rapid compared to the others I've driven. If you do convert, bagsy on the engine. I'll keep it for a rainy day or sommit!

no point destroying a good xsara.

is it a 8v saxo vtr or 16v 1.8 vtr? unusual engine in a 205 either way... well less common than mi16s and gti6's.

you are realy confusing.... did you just put this thread up to boast about you getting a xsara?

I did mine myself but got someone else to do the re angle on the manifold and splice the loom. i spent about £2000 on everything I needed then it took me and a mate 2 evenings to take the old motor out and stick the gti6 motor in and mod the down pipe. wouldn't want to know the cost of labour for someone else to do it!

Mike :D

No didn't put the thread up to 'boast' about getting a Xsara, Its not really a car you boast about, Ive had alot better cars than a Xsara.

Its a Xsara Vts not a saxo, and its a 2.0 16v same engine as in a 306 Gti-6 so not really a unusual engine in a 205??

Cant see whats confusing about putting a 2.0 16v in a 205?

I didn't say about the other 205 as it needs a good few ££'s spent on it before it is ready for even the 1.6 to go back in it where as my tidy 1.6 gti is all up together.

Tbh, a good phase 1 VTS with a strong engine and a good working beam and suspension bushes can be an enjoyable and competative car to drive on the limit.

The car its self was fine, body and inside was mint, it didnt seem that quick, 0-60 I think my old 1.9 was quicker, it seemed a really harsh drive if that makes sense? it wasn't fun to drive over about 80mph it felt terable, All noise and no go.

The Xsara is great fun to drive and seems really quick, thats why I thought this engine might be better than the last one. I need to have a drive in another 205 Gti-6 to see what others are like I think before I rip a good car apart

I'm doing the wiring now, its not bad at all really.

I reckon about £500 not including engine and box is a good estimate.

I agree with Alistair, its a good chassis that's less likely to bite your head off if you push it a little too hard, the limit seems much further in them too.

doing it yourself i would look at about 500

miles exhaust manifold - 100 plus yours (dont tilt it)

your down pipe/center section modded - 30 (or do it yourself)

stat housing adaptor - 40?

loom - 40? do yourself or get somebody on here to do it

cambelt service - 120? (do it while its out, much easier :D )

mi16 clutch - 80ish

misc - 100

thats about it i think

what is the issues with tilting the engine? just curious as i have mine tilted a few degs to clear the m/c and bulkhead and have had no problems with it.

admittedly its not been on a track yet but has been given some stick, and the only real issue was oil starvation on a roundabout at speed. but i didnt think this was related??
