Mi16 Starting Problems

Recommended Posts

mikeygulley

Hi guys,

need some advice on an MI that was in an E reg 1600 gti with a phase 1 loom that has all been transferred into an F reg 1900 gti. The E reg gti was crashed but the engine was still running perfectly so picked up an F reg 1900 to put the MI into. The looms were different so we stripped all the wiring from the F reg car and put the wiring from the E reg in. We have spark and fuel but the motor isn't attempting to fire at all!

Any comments would be good.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike

Good effort to you and Adam transferring the Mi to a new shell, especially outdoors at this time of year!.

Have a look at this thread and see how you get on :) .

Nice on Hywell, I have just called him to try a few things he was still up there tinkering! We did end up doing the transfer in the main workshop so it wasn't too bad. :)

If your missing a spark is the CAS (crank angle sensor) fitted / plugged in & have you got the right (Mi) flywheel fitted?

Graham.

Hi Graham,

There is a spark and the flywheel is off the Mi and crank sensor is in place. This motor hasn't been touched moving it from one car to another.

I had a similar issue on a 1.6 which was running when removed, but wouldn't fire when transplanted. Fuel and spark but no go, plugs were clean and dry. Apparently it wasn't getting enough fuel and fired straight away if I removed the AFM connector or pushed the flap all out with a screwdriver.

Maybe a missing live or earth or something damaged during the accident?

mang

when you say theres fuel do you mean going down the rail or out the injectors? have you checked the pulse at the injector plugs because you may have unpluged the relay or knocked it by merstake

All sorted guys, thanks for the info. It turned out the inside of the dizzy was very damp so the car was dragged down the road until the engine warmed and then started off the key 10 minutes later. :)

Ok so all WAS good until this morning, car started and my mate (Adam) was driving it to work (late as usual) and over took a slow moving lorry. The car hit 6500rpm and didn't want to go any further (normally manages 7500 easily). Anyway thats when a pretty rank knocking started to come from the engine, it sounds fine when idling but when revved up a bit it knocks like hell! The car was running fine only last night.

Obviously Adam isn't too happy about this and I know what will happen when it winds him up even more, he will just drive it very hard, do more damage and then be in a massive man strop! hahaha

Any ideas on what the knocking could be? I thought maybe big ends but could it be linked to it not wanting to start?

Thanks in advance,

Mike
